Description: This bird is QUICK. I was mildly frustrated, but at the same time I had to admire his 'radar' - it became a game in the end. After a few weeks I finally got a shot that at least resembled him.

Re: Kingfisher

Good for you! Our kingfishers are fast too. I'd love to get a picture of one but have not been as persistent as you.

Toni, way to go! This is a wonderful capture. I'm pleased you won the game.

That is well done! Aussie kingfishers are even more amazing looking, how big is this speedy bird?

Re: Kingfisher

Ellen, Here is a link about the kingfisher. I didn't know only Australia and New Guinea had the long tailed species (paradise kingfisher). My particular one was about 6 inches from his feet to top of his head (as in this pose) but include his tail and measure the other way....well that would make him a lot bigger.

Re: Kingfisher

Toni do you know what type of kingfisher this is? I don't think we have this one here in South Africa. Is this a male or female? Our Giant and Malachite Kingfisher are my favourite
