drop shadow on text

I added a shadow to a line of text. Then I grouped the layers together (the text and shadow layer together so that I can move the text and shadow together as one object. When I do this the shadow which is a dark color black) shows through the text layer which is a light gold color. Is there a bug in the program or maybe a better way to do this?
Any help wiil be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

I can't seem to duplicate this problem you are having. Is the gold text layer in normal blend mode and 100 % opacity ?

Did you just choose a plain colour for the text or did you add a layer style?

How did you make the shadow? Did you use a Layer Style (found in the Styles and Effects palette)? That way the shadow is generated by the text so it will not only move but if you edit the text, the shadow will change too.
Also, when you say you grouped the text and the shadow, do you mean linked (with the chain symbol)?

I was copying the text layer to make the shadow.
I didn't know about the drop shadow in the Styles and Effects palette.
Thanks very much,
Scott
