RAW File updates

I just acquired a new Canon Digital Rebel XT, and lost the RAW file capabilities I had with my old Powershot G5. I expect that Nikon D70 users, et al would also like to see updates in this area.

Re: RAW File Formats

I take it back about the Nikon D70 users - they seem to be all set. I will, however, be waiting (impatiently) for Raw File Update 2.5.

Does Raw not work on the new Rebel XT? ... it does work with most of the other Canon DSLRs including the Rebel.

I had hopes for the 2.4 update, since it is alleged to work with the 20D, but apparently not.

I have now seen several reports of this on other forums ... and yet Canon are saying that it is the same Raw as the 20D and the 20D is supported by the latest Raw plugin.

If I hear anything else I will let you know

One way being suggested is to archive the RAW files then wait for Adobe to update the camera raw plugin ... which shoulddn't take too long but I did find this on another forum: ...

Thomas Knoll (who writes the Adobe RAW plugin) posted that he had looked at the RAW images from the 350D and it was sufficiently different to the 20D that the converter has to be modified (in other words you can't just hack the version of the converter which works on the 20D with a hex editor to get it to convert) He produces a new version every three months or so.

In the meantime the canon programs EOS view and DPP (I think that both come packaged with the 350D) will work - the latter in particular does a reasonable job with quite a few options (at least on 20D files) - it's just a bit slow and clunky and doesn't have the advantage of being integrated with Elements or photoshop.

Hope this is of some help

Wendy

Canon 20D/RAW 2.4

:?:
Hi fellow CANON 20D users,I loaded the 2.4 update into EL3,& it sorts out
all the raw images just fine.(I have seen an English photo mag.that prefers El3 raw converter to the CS version.)
BUT the excellent downloader supplied with El3 does not recognise raw
files on my memory card.Jepegs are no problem. If all the files on the
memory card are raw,the downloader says that there are no images on the card!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone else had/got this problem?
Cheers,Don.
