Printing a borderless 8.5 x 11 inch photo
I've tried everything I know to print a borderless 8.5 x11 inch photo in Photoshop Elements 3. What happens is I get a half inch white border at the top and at the bottom. I'm using the following equipment:
Canon 20d digital camera, Macintosh G5 DP computer with system 10.3.8, and a Canon i960 printer. Would appreciate any help very much. Thanks, Frank |

In your Printer manual does it say you can print Borderless 8.5 X 11? I have a Canon printer but on the Canon site it only mentions Borderless Printing (4" x 6") for your model. I had to go up to the i9900 printer to get borderless printing for larger sizes other than 5 x 7.
Hope it works out for you - let us know. |

Thanks, Mary. My manual does indeed state borderless prints for 4x6" prints on Photo Paper Pro. But yesterday Cnon tech support showed me how to print a borderless 8.5x11" print in Easy Photo Print. That's why I can't understand why I can't get a borderless one in Photoshop Elements 3. It is good to know that the i9900 printer will do it. I may have to spring for that later on. Frank

I hadn't even tried it with Easy Photo Print - thank you for pointing me to a tool that I will certainly use!
I also tried it from within PSE 3 and it did work. I was able to select borderless on 8.5 X 11 paper by going to File | Print | Page Setup | Printer | Properties | Page Setup I was working on an image that I had sized before hand to 8.5 x 11 and 200 resolution and printed it in landscape. When I tried to use regular paper instead of photo paper it warned that it wasn't a good idea to print borderless on plain paper - so I lied and said I was using photo paper but just left the regular paper in the tray. Let me know if any of these settings change your outcome. |

Mary, this is probably dumb question (can't think this morning), but how did you size it to 8.5 x 11 beforehand? Thanks, Frank

Mary, disregard my last message. It hit me, just resample and uncheck constrain proportions. It printed borderless 8.5x11. What that does is squeeze the sides in a little. But it works. Thanks, Frank

Glad you were able to use a work around Frank - being a bit of a control person I resize photos a little differently to avoid the "slight squeeze" thing.
I go to Image | Resize Image | Turn off Resample and choose Resolution 200 (if I am going to print it ) | Turn back on resample | leave on constrain proportions | select one size or the other until you come close. (If you are trying to make it bigger - resize in 10% increments until you are close - you should get much better results than doing it in one fell swoop). I usually can get pretty close but normally have to shave off a bit on the top, side or bottom. I do this with the cropping tool setting dimensions to 8.5 X 11 200 Resolution and then I can crop it the way I want it to print out. This sounds pretty long but give it a try and I hope it works out for you. |
