Transfer of Plugins

I just switched from PSE; ver. 9 to ver. 10. I bought some plugins I used with ver. 9. But they are not available in ver. 10. Can someone tell me how to do this or point me to a thread where it may have already been discussed?

Thank you,
Larry

Larry,

Could you tell us which plug-ins you want to transfer to PSE10?

Hi Larry,

You can find the information you need on this Topaz support page:

Switching Your Topaz Plugins to PSE 10

Let us know how it goes for you.

Thank you JulieM.

This is my situation at that link:

Quote:
1. Close Photoshop Elements 10
2. Go to C: \ Program Files(x86) \ Adobe \ PSE9 \ Plug-ins
3. Copy your Topaz files - highlight / select them and then right-click and select "Copy" (or use shortcut keys CTRL-C to copy)
4. Go to C: \ Program Files(x86) \ Adobe \ PSE10 \ Plug-ins
5. Paste the copied plug-in files - right-click and select "Paste" (or use the shortcut keys CTRL-V to paste)
6. Restart PSE10 for the changes to take effect.

Step 2: All I have there, is a "shortcut" icon for topazadjust4. So I did START ---> SEARCH. Typed in Topaz ... several items come up, but mostly it is photos I've done something with in Topaz. It looks like the only search result that might be something is the topazadjust_setup. ???
When I open PSE 9, I have access to Topaz Adjust so I KNOW it's on this machine somewhere. Can someone post the actual name/s of the file/s I'd be copying & pasting? Maybe I can search one of them.
Thank you,
Larry
P.S. When I installed Topaz Adjust, as with most software, I just used the default locations that the install wizard brings up. I I just try installing Topaz Adjust again, what would make it, if it would, show up in PSE 10? I'm not a code writer so maybe this can't be done, but it would be nice if something like an upgrade from PSE 9 to 10 would just see what plugins are associated and just transfer them.

Hi Larry,

I just took a look at my PC. I have only one Topaz filter installed on that machine (B&W Effects) and I located it in the path listed in the link on the Topaz site. I suspect it is the same one as you found. It was listed in Windows Explorer as topazbw with a type of 'shortcut'. I moved that out onto my desktop and when I restarted PSE6, Topaz B&W Effects was no longer available in the Filter menu. I moved it back into the path given, restarted PSE6 and it was again available.

I'd give that a try - just make a copy and move it into place in PSE10 and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I don't see why you can't run the installer again. Be sure to have your license key handy.

Let us know what happens - your experience will probably help other Windows users wanting to do the same thing with their Topaz filters.

Eureka! Because that "shortcut" was only 1K in size, I thought surely that can't be anything. But it is. I simply copied & pasted it into the Photoshop 10 plugin folder and voila .. Topaz in ver.10.

Thank you.

It seems a lot of times these crazy issues turn out to be almost nothing to fix ... not always for sure .. but often.

Larry
