Scanned Nikon NEF/RAW files

Hi,

I just purchased a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED scanner and have saved scans in two file formats: Nikon NEF (RAW) and TIFF. The TIFF files open in Elements 3.0, but the NEF files will not. I am scanning in 16 bit mode for optimal image data, and Elements 3.0 is supposed to open both RAW and 16 bit. What gives?

Thanks for any help...

Scanned Nikon NEF Files

Elements 3 has no problem with Nikon NEF files. Are you downloading the files directly from the camera or are you placing the CF Card in a reader. If you are loading directly from the camera you have to change the USB setting to Masss Storage. If it set to PTP you cannot see the files.

Hope that helps
Joe

Scanned Nikon NEF files

The NEF files are scanned files, which I understand are not identical to NEF files from a camera.

I thought Elements 3 can't read Nef Raw files from a D2X. Am I correct. I realize D70 is OK, but not D2x

I've found that there is no trouble opening NEF files scanned with the Coolscan 5000 if the Adobe plugin for Nikon NEF files is installed. However, I can't use the organizer with the NEF files. They won't open in the organizer so they can't be tagged. The only way is to open them in the editor and save them as JPEG files. That's OK, except I don't want to do that for a thousand files. Anyone have an answer?

I seem to remember that Elements doesn't handle 16 bit images. Could that be the problem

Trailhead66,
You did download and install Camera RAW 3.2 http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=3074 ?
Also, Poge said above that the D2X is not supported. According to the read-me file, it is.
