RAW-NEF FILES

Hi,

I'm new to Adobe 3.0 elements. Can anyone advise on whether there is a way to save RAW-NEF files from the Nikon D70 Digital camera?? It appears the only way to save them is in TIFF or JPEG. I would prefer to use elements but unless there is an upgrade I don't see away in converting into RAW?

Thanks
Roy

Roy,

The D70 is supported by the Camera Raw Plug in. Take a look here but don't take any notice of the mentions of CS ... the plug in within Elements is the same one (although when used with Elements not all of the controls are there):

You can import Raw images from the D70 with out any problem. The amount of control you have over the raw files will satisfy almost any needs. You can save your files in may way but you can't resave them as NEF.

RAW Files

Correct. The NEF file is in essence a negative. You cannot modify it and then call it a negative again. When you use Photoshop Elements or even its big brother Photoshop you must save the file under another format other than NEF.

I would download the latest version of Camera Raw ... I think that it is 2.4.

I understand that Adobe will be issuing new versions of Camara Raw on a fairly frequent basis (I think I heard every three months or so ...) but as to when the next version will be issued ... there has been no information about that.

The last version was January so maybe a new one will be issued soon. If I were you I would try emailing Adobe and asking them ... if you do find out then please let us know
