costly cute idea

U.S. Personalized postage stamps

http://photo.stamps.com/PhotoStamps/?source=si10427619

...Something one might consider for Christmas card mailings or just personal correspondences to people that matter...certainly not for everyday use....unless of course you can afford it.

Hey Jodi- Both Mary and I did this and were happy with the results. Of course, I got 37 cent ones, not realizing the price would go up, so now I have to stick extra postage on, and it just ruins the whole effect. I did it with pictures my husband had taken of animals around our yard, and he really liked them. Definitely not for all your postage needs, but a fun gift idea.

It was in fact Australia that pioneered the idea although a lot of countries are now doing it. They're also becoming collectibles:

You can get UK ones at:

And Canadian ones at:

last year was the 5th anniversary of our dance school and our arts and crafts teacher made a quilt out of panels that each student in the school created. i used the picture of the quilt and used photostamps.com to make the stamps of the quilt. they turned out beautifully. so then i made notecards out of the picture and in the small print on the back of the card said the significance of the quilt. so until the recent increase in postage, it was quite a nice combo to send notes... that is... until the postage increase in price.

The really only "extra" cost is having them shipped to you--it was not that much (for the US ones) otherwise the stamps just cost what the stamps cost.

oops - The stamps that I purchased at Christmas time added at least 20 cents to each stamp. Now they are priced at 17.99 for a sheet of 20 stamps. That makes it 90 cents per stamp. Did I order from a bad place?
