Print colour problems with Adobe RGB

That dreaded colour management problem again... When I have photos tagged as Adobe RGB and use the canon i965 ICM profiles I get a strong red and green hue to my print preview and the print (at least they match). Untagged photos preview and print fine. Adobe RGB tagged photos with the print space set to same as source or Adobe RGB preview and print OK but surely the best results should be from the canon profiles. Same pictures printed using Canon Easy Photo print OK but I'd like to stay in photoshop.

Any thoughts ? My monitor is profiled.

It would help if you let everyone know if you are working in windows or the Mac OSX. Do you have the full Photoshop or a version of Elements? I think it may revolve around the color management choice you make when in the print menu. You must turn this off in most cases. Please add more detail about which version of Photoshop you are using and the operating system. It will allow those more competent than me to answer correctly. Try looking at the website www.drycreekphoto.com. They have an article on using ICC profiles that might help. Also, the Kodak site has something in their support area on using profiles that might help. These are generic articles that may give you a hint to what is happening. Most likely you are color managing twice.

Thanks for the reply. I'm running Elements 3 with Windows XP. It feels like I've read every article on colour management that's out there. I've got the Canon PDF on how to use their profiles and followed those and checked agaisnadvice on other forums.. You're correct in saying that it sounds like some kind of double color management but I can't work out where. A couple of other forums alude to similar problems with canon printers but with no conclusive answers.

Any help still appreciated.

PS having just tried the drycreek site I'll vouch for the fact that it's a well written and useful. I tried some of the test images that they include and get the same issue.

I have been away so did not notice this until today. I have finally gotten some very good prints using ICC profiles and I did it with doing test prints on 4x6 paper to limit the cost of rotten prints while testing. The secret is in not using color management. After you chose the ICC profile in the print space you go to the print menu. Under color management pick "No Color Mgt." Then pick your paper settings as usual. Sometimes when you preview the color looks bad but it may come out. Sometimes when you pick the new ICC profile in the color space the print chages color there. I do not know why this does this. Try printing a few different prints with the color management on, then off. Keep notes and write them on the print as soon as the print is out of the printer. This is the only way to figure this out as a novice, which I am still, but a determined one. I have both Mac OS X machine and a XP machine. The process is different for each machine! Go figure!

Give it a try and let me know. Wendy and Jodi are the best folks out there with overall knowledge of Adobe but they had a hard time with this when I asked questions.

Good luck and I will try to keep an eye on this site for a while so I can respond. If you still are having problems document each step you take so I or someone else can try to duplicate it and troubleshoot for you.
