Hey there Elements Village.
I have a Canon MD235 mini DV camera with a totally WACKY White balance. It is not that there is a fault in the camera, just a terribly bad white balance scheme. I am using Premiere Elements 7.0 and am wondering how to do colour correction ONLY to adjust the coulors.Nothing else SO thanks in advance, and im sure that with your help my coulors will look real!! |

SKATEFILMER7, use the Hue/Saturation to neutralize the colors.
Move the Saturation slide to the left to get rid of color casts.

You can also apply a filter in Elements. If the image is too warm, add a cooling filter; if to cool, add a warming filter:
Filter > Adjustments > Photo Filter Try the different filters, and use the slider to adjust the density. There is also Enhance > Adjust Color > Remove Color Cast Also, Enhance > Adjust Color > Color Variation I would duplicate the background layer with Ctrl-J, then apply the effect to the duplicate layer. If the effect is too strong, lower the opacity of that layer. Also, you can toggle the visibility of that layer off and on to see before and after... just click on the square with the eye beside the layer to toggle. Diana

Diana, thanks for the great post about the filters, i`ll try that later.
Could this be better than applying the saturation control, or is it different deppending on what you are doing? Thank you |

If you are shooting video with your Canon, I do not see how the previous Photoshop Elements (photo editor) tips are going to have anything to do with a video editing question Premiere Elements 7. Look at Effects/Video Effects/if I recall correctly, check out the Adjust category where you should find options including Auto Level, Channel Mixer, etc. I am traveling right now and will give you a fuller answer when I return to my home base, later today or tomorrow morning. I just wanted to make sure that we were on the same page, since Photoshop Elements is the photo editor and Premiere Elements is the video editor. So, if your color correction is for video, Photoshop Elements is not going to do the job. Does your Canon miniDV camcorder allow you to shoot still and is that what you were referring to? Did you do any color correction for the Canon video in Premiere Elements yet? More tomorrow, ATR |

Open a levels adjustment layer
pick the center eyedropper Find something that should be a neutral gray Click on it. If that does not work try different areas until you get a pleasing color. If the caste is in the highlights rather than mid-tones pick the white eye dropper and click on the brightest white in your picture. If in the shadows do the same with the shadow slider. You can always pick a channel to fine tune. Butch

Butch and all, you all appear to be addressing the question as related to Photoshop Elements. That is great and may prove helpful to this user when using Photoshop Elements.
At the onset SKATEFILMER7 indicated that this color correction problem was related to Premiere Elements and video. So, SKATEFILMR7, what is it.... Color correction with regard to Premiere Elements and video or Photoshop Elements and photos??? I do not recall that any of you has pointed out that the tips that you are giving SKATEFILMER7 are for Photoshop Elements, thus promoting confusion on the part of a Premiere Elements newcomer who sees your comments and wonders why he/she cannot find the features in Premiere Elements that you are posting about. If SKATEFILMER7 wishes further information on the topic of color correction in Photoshop Elements, then I would suggest the SKATEFILMER7 start a new thread in one of the non Premiere Elements Forums here for that purpose. Looking forward to your understanding and co-operation in this matter. ATR |
