AVCHD Conversion question

I have some footage from my Cannon HF 200 taken on a 32 SDHC card.

The footage is in the AVCHD/MTS. format and have tried handbrake, Koyote Soft and a bunch of other converters but results are choppy video and in some of the clips, the audio can be barely heard.

Any suggestions on how to get this footage converted?

Thank you.

I had some success with VoltaicHD. Have you tried that one?

Have you seen this FAQ on the topic of AVCHD conversion?
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390605?tstart=0

What version of Premiere Elements are you using? And, what is the project preset (new project dialog) that you are setting? Once you have the AVCHD or its converted version on the Timeline, have you rendered the Timeline in the Edit Mode by pressing the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard? Where are the video and audio issues….play back in computer players of converted video and/or play back of the Premiere Elements Timeline? Do these problems manifest themselves if you take one of the converted video to and through export?

What are you shooting with your Canon HF200, AVCHD Full 1920 x 1080 square pixels or Non Full 1440 x 1080 HD Anamorphic? Does your computer have the resources to deal with the demands of high definition video?

Hi,

I have tested a lot of different conversion tools and you will loose quality no matter what you do. AVCHD is a highly compressed format...

See my post: http://www.elementsvillage.com/forum...ad.php?t=51400

Yes. I have seen that faq. It did not help.
I play the video on Premiere Elements 8 and these problems do manifest themselves through the export process.

My computer is an HP Pavilion zd 8000 and I also have a 500GB external drive attached to the laptop.

Is there a step by step method of playing it on Premiere 8?

Have you defragmented your computer system recently? Please do it now and observe the before/after situation...a recent Dan reminder that worked for him in his situation.

What do you have on your Premiere Elements 8 Timeline that is giving you the choppy video....1920 x 1080 MPEG2 from a Koyote Soft conversion?

What Premiere Elements 8 project preset (new project dialog) have you set? After you use Get Media/Files & Folders to bring the converted video into Premiere Elements 8 Timeline, do you Render the Timeline by pressing the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard? When the process is complete, the red line above the Timeline will turn green. What do the before and after look like for that? I am assuming that you have the new Background Rendering feature disabled in Edit Menu/Preferences/General. I have it disabled since I prefer to tell the program when and if to do this type of rendering. Another feature that I have disabled is the AutoAnalyzer which, among other things, scene splits and stacks the splits for my video when I do not want it split.

Also, look at checked and unchecked for Edit Menu/Preferences/General- option "Enable GPU Playback".

Have you read the AdobeTech Note "Troubleshoot digital video playback (Adobe Premiere Elements 8)?
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/515/cpsid_51526.html

What export types and settings have you used, and are you saying that all the exports exhibit the choppy video? If so, what players?

Please let me know if any of the above helped.

Thanks.

Thanks for information. I did what suggested with the rendering and it looks a little better but it is istill a little choppy like a webcam choppy and I have no sound.

If you mean what format I have been exporting it has been AVI, WMV and MP4
Would it be possible for you to lay out the steps that you take from conversion to playing your clip on Premiere.

What I will do is follow those steps and when a problem comes up I will go and trouble shoot.

Just confirm what you are getting out of the Koyote Soft converter. Is it 1920 x 1080 MPEG2 or something else?
And, have you tried all the Koyote Soft converter details that cyberioten has supplied in the following thread?
http://www.elementsvillage.com/forum...ad.php?t=51400

Once I have that baseline, I will download the Koyote Soft converter and see what I can come up with for a workflow for you.

But please supply this baseline material. I am just about to call it a day, but I think that I will download the Koyote Soft anyway.

ATR-

Thank you again for your help. Yes. I am using that converter. In terms of specifications, I use whatever is set on the converter, I have not really changed it.

What do you usually use for a converter?

Captain Sunshine.

I have not been using a AVCHD converter. But, last night I downloaded the Koyote Soft and started working with it last night.

My GOM player loves AVCHD and especially the 1920 x 1080 MPEG2 from the conversion, but my Windows Media Player (version 10 and then upgraded to 11) hates it. Playback of the MPEG2 using it is not great, but worse of all the playback freezes my HP wired optical mouse.

I will take a look at your camcorder specifications again to gauge that side of the issue and then put the Koyote Soft through its paces.

To be continued....
