PSE3: My bevels won't work

I am on WinXP(Sp2), sort of intermediate user of Elements, and I was disheartened to see that the bevels feature when clicked sends up a box claiming ."...the style is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

Strange, because they worked since I got PSE3. I tried restoring preferences; ran spybot; ran scandisc. Does anyone have anyother suggestions . I also have on PSE2 and the bevels work there.
so sad....ceevee

Is this the bevels that came with PSE3 or a set that you have downloaded?

My bevels won't work

The bevels that came with PSE3 will no longer work. I had recently downloaded 3 styles from Adobe Studio(.asl 6 and .asl6.0.1), but thought they might be an influence so I deleted them. Now I am back to default Styles and Effects, no third party additions. Still, the standard bevels are dead. I am suspecting a re-install is in order, but I don't know how to do that correctly. ops:

try deleting the preference file before anything else.

Open pe3 Welcome window, hold down alt+ctrl+shift a half a split second after clicking on the editor ap. A pop up message will ask if you would like to delete the settings, say YA and then the program will load with all it's default settings.

Be quick with your fingers !

So does everything else works except Bevels? ... all the other styles works OK?

If so it sounds as though the bevels file has become corrupt ... if it has maybe someone could send it to you rather than you having to do a full re-install.

try deleting your preview caches>>

Path is C:Program files>Adobe>PE3>Previews>cache>cache effect; delete the three files.
Repeat process for filters cache ( may or may not be 3 files in there)...depends.

Then restart Elements.

Also, be sure your images are in 8 bit rgb mode>>>>If you were working with raw images in 16 bit mode then there is only a limited amount of options available>>>convert to 8 bit.

Bad bevels

Thanks Jodie. I followed your directions about deleting from the effects and filters cache and restarting. No luck. No bevel. THe word bevels shows up, but when I try to apply, a box insists it is not compatible with PSE3 (and of course it was) Is reinstall the next option?. Is it ok to leave the deleted cache files in recycle? Especially the filters one? :?

thanks again ceevee

ceevee, mail me at

lfrye012000@yahoo.com

and I'll send you a copy of the default bevel styles. Then you can delete the ones you have and install the ones i send. It's possible your file somehow got corrupted.

I want to thank everyone and Jodi publicly for helping me get my bevels back. I have no idea why they refused to function. But now I speak very kindly to them.
