Angry DVD msg = NO DVD BURNER DETECTED

When i try to burn a DVD+R there is a message 'No DVD Burner Detected'. If i rescan Premier Elements 2 closes. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 which is about a year old. It took several hours to burn to a folder. It doesn't appear i have any other software to burn a DVD unless i pay for an upgrade to Sonic. One of my main reasons for purchasing PE was to be able to burn DVD's. According to Dells user manual, i should be using DVD+R. The drive is a 24X Combo DVD/CD-RW. My DVD is an 8x 4.7 GB. Any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help.

The drive is a 24X Combo DVD/CD-RW
Well here is your problem.
the combo is a dvd player and a cd/rw as you stated. It will not burn a DVD,
If it was to burn a DVD It would be listed as this. 16X DVD, DVD R-/R+
So no matter how hard you try or what disk you use its not going to happen.

Thanks for your help. Prior to reading your response, i had discovered my cd dvd combo would not burn dvd's. I now own some 16x DVD-R discs that i haven't opened. My next question is, do you have a recommendation for an external DVD burner that will work with my Dell Inspiron 8600? I had read that i should purchase USB2.

This is what I would do. Call Dell Upgrade Center buy a DVD Burner for your P.C and take it to the local computer shop have them install it in your P.C
Along with the software.

This way you will have no probems with 'No DVD Burner Detected'. Please note: Lot of people would not do this. but everyone can NOT be a computer tech. Save yourself all the trouble.

Another option - buy an external DVD burner - plug it in using a USB2 port on your computer - install the software and you are good to go. I got the Sony external DVD for my birthday and it has been great.

DVD Burner and finalizing DVD

I agree with the external. What model is your sony (and price)? I read a comment from someone with a sony and it didn't work for him. Not sure why. I see there is an HP with Light Scribe which prints labels on the back side of the DVD, but you need a DVD with Light Scribe capability. Sounds kind of neet.

Do you know if with Premiere you can burn a DVD then add additional photos later? Someone told me that most software finalizes the DVD when the initial project is complete.
