Motion JPEG video

I decided to repost my question here because someone on the Training forum questioned whether digital camera motion jpeg video files can be used in Premiere Elements.
---------------------------------
I am attempting to determine if it is worthwhile for me to do the Premiere Elements training.

In reading at http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com...e-overview.php

there is a dicussion of files from camera phones but no discussion of video files from digital still cameras. I recently purchased a Canon Powershot A620 camera which takes 640 x 480, 30 fps video saved as Motion JPEG AVI (with mono audio) .

I was actually surprised how good the video image looks when I play it back on my LCD monitor on my PC using either Quicktime 6.5.2 or Windows Media Player 10. So I want to use these short video clips in Premiere Elements 1 or 2. Does the training cover how I can do this? Or is there another source for this information?

Barb,

The following is a list of the formats supported by PRE

Import/export formats supported
MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DV, AVI, Windows Media®, QuickTime, JVC Everio MOD (import only), 3GP (import only), ASF (import only), WAV, WMA (import only), Dolby® Digital Stereo, PSD (import only), JPEG, PNG (import only), DVD

I don't see motion JPEG in the list from Adobe but let me do some more checking.

Motion JPEG?

Hi Barb,

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that you're actually dealing with an avi file which should work in the program. You mention motion JPEG AVI in your post. What is the actual file extension (the letters behind the dot in the filename)?

Norm,

It is a .avi file extension.

However, I undertand that within the .avi file type there are multiple different formats. I think that DV-AVI is true digital video from a digital camcorder and although Motion JPEG is written with an AVI file type it is not the same as DV-AVI.
