layer mask
Hi,
I need help with the following editing. I have 2 layers: a background and a blur one. I want to apply the blur layer on some part of the image only. I was thinking to use a layer mask to obtein such result. But it seems that Photoshop element doesn't provide layer mask. What other technics can I use to obtain the same result? Thank you for any help you can provide. TCP |

While there are all sorts of work arounds you can get true layers masks by downloading Paul Shipley's tools. They are Free!

Hello, there are several ways to get around this and some software that will enable layer masking to work as it does in the big brother versions of PS.
An easy way is to add a gradient layer to your background ie the blurred one. Now move to the top layer (not blurred) and hit ALT + G or whlist holding the ALT key pick the line between the two layers in the palette (note the cursor will change) and move it to the right slightly. The result of this is that the top layer will only show through where it is white on the gradient layer. Now you can move to the gradient and paint away. If you make a mistake just change the colour to either black or white (depending on what you started with). This method means nothing is ever erased and is always reversible! Layering is the basis of all good PS work. Once you check this it's easy. Hope this helps Neil |

Re: layer mask
Quote:
To selectively remove the blur, all you need to do is use the Eraser tool on the blur layer. Use a soft edged brush and erase over the areas that you want to bring back into focus. Mike |
