Outlining Text

Hello all!!!
I am new to Photoshop Elements 7 & Photoshop & I have a huge problem I can't figure out. I am typing text on a new file, layer, whatever they are called. I don't see anywhere where I can select an outline tool to outline or shadow the text in.....
Please help!!!!
Dustin

If you want to put an even border around text you can do so with 'stroke'. In past versions of Elements this was under the Edit menu, but hunt around. Set your foreground color to the color of the border you want. Ctrl-click on the text layer icon in the layers palette (this will give you a selection of the text). Make a new layer above the text and choose edit>stoke. In the dialog box, you can set the width of the border and change the color if you want -- select 'outside' and click OK.

To make a drop shadow, select the text as before, make a new layer BELOW the text and choose edit>fill. This will use the foreground color to fill the selection. Next pick the move tool and nudge the layer right and down to make the 'shadow'.

Dustin,

There are several ways to do this. I have PEv.3, and in the Styles and Effects palette, which maybe called something else in PEv.7, go to:

Effects>Text effect>bold outline.

Apply this to the text which you have created with the Horizontal text tool

CTRL+left click the text layer in the layers palette. You should see "marching ants" around the letters

Go to Edit>stroke, select a contrasting color, width in px, and position: outside.

Hi Dustin, welcome aboard!

In PSE7, special Text effects are in the Content palette -- about 44 of them. Just scroll down and you'll find the effects you're looking for.

To make the Content palette visible in the Full Editor, go to Window > Content.

Thanks, Sepiana! Learn something new every day! I did not know this either but I've only been using PE7 for a week so I still have much, much more to learn! Smany things seem to be different from PE5.

Roln, Steve, Martha,

You're all most welcome! PSE7 has been quite a learning experience for me too (I had PSE4 before).
