Premiere Elements 7 - "Multiplexing has Failed" (export to h.264 1920x1080i30)

New to the forum, and did a search but no dice. I have the PSE7/PRE7 bundle I purchased and downloaded direct from Adobe. I also have a Canon HF100 AVCHD Camcorder.

My problem is this. Whenever I attempt to render one of my camcorder clips (AVCHD .MTS files) that I've dropped into the timeline using the "h.264 1920x1080i 30" share option, it gets all the way through the rendering process and then with 5 seconds left, I get a "Multiplexing has failed" error and it fails to complete the rendering job. The clips are shot at 1920x1080 60i at 17MB/s. I import the clips and attempt the render in the 1920x1080i 30 (not 5.1) "preset".

I cannot for the life of me figure out the problem. I called tech support and the best they could suggest was to have me re-install PRE7...which I did...twice...and the problem persists.

I'm running 32-bit Vista Ultimate on a Dell D820 notebook with a 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GB RAM, a 320GB 7200RPM HDD, and a 512MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120 Video Card, so processing power shouldn't be the problem. In fact I can render in every other format I've tried without issue.

Other potentially relevant software installed (although I've uninstalled all of this in an attempt to see if they were causing problems, and the problem persists whether or not they're installed) include QuickTime 7, Nero 9, and Pixella ImageMixer 3 SE (the software that came with the HF100 which I don't use, but installed solely to provide the codec to view the .MTS files in WMP11 and in the PSE7 organizer).

Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance!

Mav,

I do not have Premiere Elements 7 yet and have not worked with AVCHD. You could call Adobe T/S back with updates of your troubleshooting and also get involved in the following topic at Adobe (Premiere Elements User to User Forum):
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6a627

You will need to Register to post a question in the topic there, but there is no charge.

I know that, in prior versions of Nero, its drivers could create all sorts of problems for other programs. Often removal of Nero software from the computer needs to be done with a version specific Nero Clean Tool that should be available on the Nero web site.

Have you gone into the Advanced settings for your export and worked with the settings?

I will be on the look out for information related to your issue.

But, please follow up on the two suggestions at the beginning of my response and let us know the outcome.

Thanks ATR. I posted basically this exact same problem on the Adobe Forums site, so we'll see what that leads to. As you can probably tell, I'm trying to avoid another call to T/S since I really don't want to have to go through 3 hours of needless troubleshooting if there's a simpler solution.

As for Nero, I highly doubt that's the problem since I've had the problem since the beginning (weeks now) and I installed Nero for the first time yesterday and have uninstalled and re-installed PRE7 and the various programs listed in every combination and not gotten a resolution.

As for the Advanced settings, yes, I tried it in various versions of those as well with the same result. Unfortunately, the only multiplexing option under the "h.264 1920x1080i 30" share option is "on" ("TS", I think) or "off". Predictably, it works with it "off", but then, of course, the result is multiple files.

Thanks for keeping a look out. Please let me know if you find anything.

Hi Maverickster & ATR,

I saw your messages as I had the same problem few days ago. Have you had the solution now?

Today, after I deleted 3 sub-folder "Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files", "Encoded Files", and "Media Cache Files", that located in the PRE project folder, the problem was gone.

I have not do more research, just hope this way is helpful for somebody else.

Thanks for sharing your results.

I wonder if your issue was involved with limited system resources. How much had piled up in those Adobe files that you deleted? Also, what are your before and after:
installed and available RAM
and
total capacity and free hard drive space (local drive)

Do you work with an external hard drive? Where are your scratch files directed (Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks)?

Thanks again for getting involved. We will be looking forward to following your progress.

I have a 1TB local driver with over 200GB free space; 4 GB RAM with around 50% usage at that time. I didn't caculate those files I deleted, but I think my resources was enough. I don't have external drive, and all scratch files are on C driver.

My project, which had problem few days ago, only has 10 minutes .mts video. I think my situation was exactly as same as Marverickster's.

However, I did over 10 Titles with Chinese fonts (my PRE and Vista are English edition). I guess this caused the error. But I did have enough time to do more research at that time.

Hope you may have idea.

Thank you.

Maverickster never got back here to post the outcome of his visit to the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe. So, just now I went looking to see if I could find his post there from over a year ago.

This is what I found:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/1756306#1756306

There was a workaround suggested. I am hoping the Maverickster checks this forum from time to time and sees your comments. I would like to know if he used the workaround suggested at Adobe or something else.

I am very curious to know the whys for how deleting temporary files could provide the fix in your situation. Although your resources sounded OK, it would have been good to know just how much was deleted from each of those folders.

ATR

Thanks again for bringing new light to this question.
