Photo to Drawing
The attached picture was converted from a digital color photo. The photographer told me he used Photoshop to convert the image. I’ve tried several suggestions for converting the image to a drawing, but I don’t get the same results. I’ve also tried some of the commercial software for converting photos to drawing. But, here again, it’s not what I’m looking for. Any suggestions or “How To” to convert this picture using PE to a drawing/sketch like photo?

I'm on a PC. I've tried some of the free software, as well as a series of filters. But I could come close the results I was looking for. Any suggestions?

Maybe try this tutorial:
http://www.photoshopcreativeelements...hp?f=18&t=2058 It is one of my favorites - just don't add the color back in at the end. Also, it might look kinda soft, so duplicate the layer and use the multiply blend mode and lower the opacity to your liking.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of this thread and try a few of the related links down there. That's a nice little extra on this forum.
Here's one by Westiemom -- post #19 http://www.elementsvillage.com/forum...t=22132&page=2 And look for Diana's threads that list links for artistic effects.

I decided to play with Westiemom's tips
I've always used a variety of actions to convert an image into line art of on form or another. THANKS WESTIEMOM for showing me how easy it is to make the necessary layers yourself ... much more control!!! Love it!
I uploaded the results to my gallery (you'll notice I don't have much in my gallery as I don't have internet at home ... am on vacation so get to play!) The Original Image B/W version ... just stopped before the step where you duplicate the original background layer and move it to the top. Still ran poster edges. Version 1 (created by following WESTIEMOM exactly) Version 2 (created by adding a clipping mask in the step where the original background layer is duplicated, moved to the top of the layers palette, opacity changed, then merged with other two layers ... just before poster edges ...) My clipping mask allowed me to: create a selection of the boy only, then use the paint tool . . . set to 25% opacity (the paint option NOT the layer visibility) and add paint ONLY to the selected area, constraining the visibility of the color layer. I played around with slight feathering of the edges but in this image it didn't really matter since the background was quite light anyway. The nice thing about using a clipping mask is that I can modify the application of color if I need to ... let's say, after I've printed the image ... if I don't like the selection or the level of color I can go back into the clipping mask layer and make any change I need to without having to start over. What fun this adventure was! Thanks to both Westiemom and Diana for their posts in the forum on artistic effects!
