3D Stereo photography and Elements.

I have had a few people contact me asking for more information about about producing and viewing 3D stereo like the examples I posted in another thread. Below are some links to get you started. I will try to answer any questions that pop up.

First off, I should address how to take 3D stereo with your camera(s).
With a single camera, which is what I use. Using a single camera you can pretty much forget about shooting anything moving. To take pictures this way one simple takes the first shot (usually being the left frame) and shifts the camera over to the right 3 or 4 inches and takes the next (right) frame. A general rule of thumb for camera seperation is 1/30 the distance to the nearest object in your photo. A shot that has an object (not needing to be the main subject) 6 feet away would have camera a seperation of about 2 1/2 inches. (6ft=72in devided by 30 = 2.4inches)
For exactness I use a slide bar with marked distances on a tripod.

This is the main page I learned from. It was created by and is maintained by RJ Thorpe. In fact this style of 3D stereoview is refered to as the Thorpe Format. There are some downloadable masks on this page that while they can not be created in Elements they work just fine with Elements. http://www.skep.com/3d/thorpe_digita...w_standard.htm

And here is his main page that has much more information on 3D
http://www.skep.com/3d/Default.htm

There are several other great pages out there with a wealth of 3D information. Dan Shelley has a very good index here. http://www.dddesign.com/3dbydan/3dlinks/linkszt.htm

Someone also asked where they might obtain a viewer for viewing these in 3D. Thorpes site has a page on free viewing, but not everyone can do it, including me. Here is the least expensive viewer that I know of. http://www.berezin.com/3d/cardvwr.htm

Also for anyone who did not see my original post. Here are 2 galleries I put up on the web of some of my 3D stereo views. (The web pages where created in Elements 2 )
