changing background color

I have a picture with a horribly bright red background. I would like to change the background to something more subtle (white or gray). How can I change the background color?

Not sure you can do that in Photoshop Express. It would be easy enough to do in Photoshop Elements. Do you have that or are you trying to do it in Photoshop Express??
