Slideshow Output From PE6
Hi
I am trying to output a slideshow either to DVD (PAL) or Premiere Elements 4 but PE6 either does nothing (send to PE4) or prompts me to save as a WMV file (not what I want to do). I can import the wmv into PE4 and then render and burn that to DVD but it's hardly a seamless process. I had anticipated something a bit more joined up than that! ![]() I can create a SVCD but that's no use due to lower quality and player compatibility problems. Any advice welcome on how this function is supoposed to work and why it doesn't. Cheers Andy |

First let us explore the route.
If you have the specific combination of Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 installed on the same computer, you have the choice to send your Photoshop Elements 6 created slideshow to Premiere Elements 4 as "a .wmv slideshow with the appropriate profile" or "as is". The "as is" choice is preferred since it allows for more editing possibilities inside of Premiere Elements. Given that you have created your slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6 and go into output. Your output options should be: Save As A File (that will get you a .wmv version saved) Burn to Disc. The VCD option there will get you a VCD after writing of the .wmv slideshow. The DVD option there will get you to DVD (in Premiere Elements) AFTER writing of the .wmv slideshow. I am not sure where you are coming up with SVCD. Send to TV (forget about this one for now) Send to Premiere Elements. This is the only non .wmv route (as is). This is the one that you should be using. Are you? I suspect that you are using Burn to Disc option instead of Send to Premiere Elements option. The other way out possibility is this. Do you have Premiere Elements 3 also installed on this computer? The Send To Premiere Elements (as is) only works with the specific combo of Photoshop Elements 5/Premiere Elements 3 OR Photoshop Elements 6/Premiere Elements 4. So, if you are creating your slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 3 is being recognized instead of 4, you probably would not see the Send to Premiere Elements option in the list of Output Options. Let me know if any of this helped. To be continued.... ATR |

All the options you list are there and I am trying to use the 'send to Premiere' option but when I click it nothing it happens at all - save for the slightest flicker of the cursor.
On burn disc I can only get the VCD option to open a burn window - DVD (PAL) prompts me to save a wmv (which I have done) and then the program just returns to the PE6 slideshow screen - so I assume that I have to use a separate DVD authoring package to burn the wmv file to DVD? That's fine if wmv files are what you want, but what I really want is the send to Premiere option as the editing and output options are much greater as you rightly observe. The installed software versions are Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 - so this combo should work. There is a missing link somewhere in that Elements is failing to recognise that Premiere is installed. I have a feeling that a re-install of one or both applications may be required but I have googled extensively for this error and have not turned anything up so it's clearly not a common problem. Usually the problem is a version mismatch. Otherwise it's a Vista thing - I may as well blame Microsoft as they get the blame for everythying else. ![]() Thanks for the help - much appreciated. Thanks for the additional information.
I went back and read the latest Premiere Elements Read Me and did not come up with anything that fits your problem's syndrome. http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...2532&sliceId=1 I think that a complete uninstall would be in order, followed by an install of Photoshop Elements 6, followed by an install of Premiere Elements 4. Have you come across the alternative quick tries for odd situations: 1. Purging preferences in Photoshop Elements as well as Premiere Elements? 2. Creating a new User Account (as Adminstrator) 3. Updating drivers If you were forced to (and you should not have to) create a saved .wmv version, you could burn that to DVD-VIDEO with a software such as Nero (its NeroVision application) if that came with the DVD-VIDEO plugin. Some do not, full versions of Nero usually do. What is your operating system: Windows XP Professional?? There is no 64 bit in this mix?? Did you just buy this software? Also, if you were to create a VCD all within Photoshop Elements 6, does Photoshop Elements 6 recognize your burner in its burner location list in the Burn dialog? To be continued.... ATR |

Answers:
OS is Vista Ultimate (32 bit). Had the apps about five months although recently (a few weeks back) had to re-install the OS and all the apps following a RAID 0 crash (don't ask). PC is twin SATA RAID 0 HDD (both apps are on the same RAID 0 system drive). Haven't tried any preference issues or changing user accounts (might be worth a try). I did successfully import the wmv into Premiere and burned a DVD from there. I don't want to do an immediate uninstall and reinstall of Premiere especially as I have three video editing projects on the go but once I have finished them I'll try it then. All drivers are bang up to date - have to be for Vista! What's the process for the preference purge you mentioned? A |

The following link is a Photoshop Elements 6 Read Me.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...2599&sliceId=2 Scroll down until you get to get to Photoshop Elements Editor Notes. There is a short cut listed there that should work in Windows Vista? This next one is an Adobe general troubleshooting article for Photoshop Elements 6 on Vista. http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...2603&sliceId=1 In this last link, check out part 3. Re-create the Photoshop Elements 6 preference files…” That is a longer version of flushing the preferences for Photoshop Elements 6. This next one is the one usually tried for Premiere Elements. http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbdd316 ATR |

Cracked it!
Right click the desktop icons for PE4 and PE6, select properties, advanced and check the 'run as administrator' box for both programs. As suspected - it was a Vista rights problem. ![]() Andy |
