Buy now or wait till August?

Hi All,

So here's my quandary ... I am presently a Windows/Dell user, but today I bought a Macbook (yeah!) and also plan to replace my Windows desktop in a few months with an iMac. I plan on purchasing Lightroom (and Elements 6 for Mac), but would like to go with Lightroom version 2. Am I reading Adobe's fine print correctly? ... if I buy Lightroom now, I will get version 1.* and a free beta of 2.0 till August when 2.0 is available, at which point I will have to pay the upgrade price for 2.0 (which will probably be about half of what less than 3 months earlier I had just paid for 1.*?). Or if I wait and download the beta of 2.0 till sometime in July, then I will only pay once for version 2.0 and will avoid the upgrade charge? I can't find anything on Adobe's website that leads me to believe I could buy the current version now, and since 2.0 is almost out, would get a FREE upgrade in August. I don't really want to wait to buy Lightroom, but I hate to pay full price now and then turn around in 2.5 months and pay perhaps another $150 for something I just bought. Looking of input ... would you wait ... thanks!

Hi Ms. Florida Gal, Welcome to the forum. Personally I would waitand finally buy the 2.0 version. Why pay a higher price. I think if I remember corerectly one of us owners of Lightroom 1.2 can send you a complementary invite and you could use the Beta version till the new one comes out. I'll do some research and if so will get back to you.

Eddie

EDIT: Sent Beth a PM for the invite.

Eddie,

Again, thanks so much! I got the invite from Adobe and completed the download so everything is good-to-go.

I am going to copy some photos from my Elements library onto the laptop so I have something to play with while I am learning Lightroom. I am hoping that in Elements (on my Windows desktop) if I use the "write keyword tag and properties info to Photos" choice from the "File" dropdown for a batch of photos, then copy them onto a flash drive, that when I copy them from the flash drive to the Mac and import into Lightroom I will be able to get them easily sorted into the same categories I use in the Elements Organizer. Since I presently have over 6500 photos tagged in the Elements Organizer, and an ultimate goal of converting the whole Library over to a Mac, I really would like to find a way to convert the Library without having to re-categorize each photo. I'd truly appreciate any other suggestions anyone has on a way to convert Organizer tags to Lightroom ... I'm not finding any ideas for the best way to do this on Adobe's website.

Thanks ... bye,

Question

Beth, I would read The Lightroom Beta Release notes here:http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/l...leasenotes.pdf
before you export all your images into the Beta Version. I think I read that they would not be transferable from the beta bersion to the full release of the new version.
