Understanding Digital Photography Video
This 47 minute video put out by Nikon covers all the basics pretty well. While the host uses Nikon cameras to demonstrate various aspects of photo taking the basics can be applied to any brand.

Thank you for posting this link! I have watched a few minutes of the video and the host makes it very easy to understand what he is talking about. I will watch the rest when I have more time. It is a very well done video!
