Saving Adobe Premier Elements (4) online Video tutorials to my PC

Hi:
I am new to Adobe Premier Elements (have version 4)
and wanted to not only watch the online video tutorials
in real-time, but also save them to my HD to watch later
again at my convenience.

The Adobe FAQ's about the free videos state the
following:
"How can I save the Videos to my hard drive so I can
watch them when I'm not connected to the internet?

Answer:
This is the next most frequently asked question.
The easy answer is to buy the full version of Quick-
time from www.apple.com/quicktime/.
It costs $29.99 to upgrade...

When you do buy the full version, you can choose File >
Save and save the movie anywhere on your hard drive.

The other alternative is not as easy:
You'll need to find out where your web browser stores
something called its 'temporary cache'. This is where
it stores the Quicktime files that you download from
the internet for a temporary period of time.

Since Internet Explorer is the most popular browser,
let's take a quick look at how this can be done:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
Choose Tools > Internet Options.
Then click the Settings button.
2. In Settings, look to see what the 'Current Location'
is set to.
Then navigate to this folder in Windows explorer.
3. Finally, search through this folder for the Quick-
time movie.
It may help if you click the 'Type' button at the top
to sort the files by type and look for files of type
'QuickTime Movie'.
4. Once you find the Quicktime movie, just copy it to
another folder on your hard drive that you know won't
be deleted."

I have been trying to avoid purchasing the upgrade to
Quicktime.

I did all of these other steps but never found the
quicktime movie in the "current location" site.
Is there another way (short of purchasing the Quick-
time upgrade) to get these files on my computer?

Second question:
I looked at the "Online training" site and read the
FAQ's--however, there was no mention of any fees
involved. Anyone know more about this??

Third question:
Is there any value (for a newbie, especially) in pay-
ing about $49 to get a yearly subscription to the
magazine as advertised on this site?

If you use mozilla firefox (which I strongly recommend you use instead of IE) then there is a handy little add-on that can be obtained called UnPlug. This add on will let you save any streaming video from a website onto your computer.

Here's a simple way to save in IE:

1. Watch the video all the way through.
2. Go to Tools>Internet Options
3. Under General>Browsing history click on Settings.
4. Click on View Files

You should then get a box like this:



Click on Type (I've highlighted it in green) then scroll down until you find your QT files (I've highlighted them in yellow) Now you can select the video you've just watched and choose copy from the panel on the left. Save it to a folder of your own choosing on your HD.

I should say that I'm using Windows XP and Quicktime 7. I've not upgraded or bought anything newer and am perfectly happy!

To answer your third question about whether it's worthwhile subscribing....

If you just have Premier 4 then possibly not as there are not a lot of tutorials, but if you are also using Photoshop Elements 6 then a resounding Yes! Not only do you get the newsletter eight times a year but also access to well over 200 video tutorials, plus around 100 written tutorials. And you don't have to use the roundabout way detailed above to save them to your HD as Jon has made it easy for us by providing a Direct Download Link for subscribers.

A quicker way to find the QT files is to sort the column labeled 'size' at the top of the screen until the largest files are at the top. The QT files will be at the top of that list.

I never thought of that. I just tried it and the QT files were definitely near the top though not all together. I think if I'd deleted temporary files before watching a few videos then they definitely would have all been at the top!!
