Thanks Grant! Just curious..does it seem like people use the Adobe downloader or XP or camera software? What are the pros and cons of each?

I suspect it is a very personal thing. For what little worth it is my preference is to use my card reader as an external drive and access my files through Windows Explorer. Whatever way you choose I do highly recommend using a card reader and not your camera. |

Leslie,
I am with Grant on that one ... I have concerns about using the camera just in case anything goes wrong plus card readers are cheap and very easy to use. Mine is permanently attached to the computer ![]() Wendy |

Some of the newer computers (those from the dark side) are now coming with card readers built in. Grant |

Sorry if I sound dumb, but can you explain why it is better to use card reader vs. camera?

Not knowing is never dumb not asking is often foolish.
If you are downloading from a card camera and the batteries in the camera fail there is a chance that you could knock out the cameras operating system as well as corrupting your data on the card. There are possibilities that you can damage a camera by plugging it into a computer, in my case if a dog ran by there is every likelihood that he will get hung up on the patch cord and my camera would end up on the ground. If you damage a camera it is likely to be more costly than damaging a card. It has been argued that removing and installing a card into a camera can bend pins but in well designed cameras this is very unlikely. Grant |

OK, you've convinced me...I'm in the market for a card reader

Often there are promotions .... I purchased a new memory card and they through in a new SanDisk read for free. So keep your eyes open who what will show up.
