Measuring monitor contrast ratios with a camera

Going to try this tonight http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/contrast-ratio.html I've been trying to calibrate my monitor with no success so I'll give this a shot before I drop the money on a device. Oh, & here are some monitor test images.http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/#settings

I'm impressed. My calibration program gave me a notice tonight that its time to calibrate again. I looked at your chart and I was very impressed with my very old monitor, that I can see all of the higher details. The deepest black squares which is very hard to see against the black background but I did see them as well as the lightest white on the white. Very hard to see but there there to see. LOL

My stats are:
--
Resolution: 1024x768 (XGA 4:3)
Description: older LCD screens, low-end new 15 inch screens. (as of 2007)
Color depth: 32 bits (Truecolor, Millions of colors)
--

Not only is my monitor old, its seen two towers since I had gotten it to replace a monitor then my tower went and did a deep six. I had got an HP without a monitor and have been using this ever since. Its got to be almost maybe 9 years old at this point. Wow, I didn't even remember that till now and I do calibrate it with an IOne colorimeter.
