HI, New with PSE4

Hi everyone, I did it! I'm a new member to this website. I couldn't help myself. This website is exactly what I was looking for. People who are nice and friendly and quick to help out without making you feel like you came out of the stone age.

today I asked my professional photographer friend why my b&W pics do not come out as good as hers, she said I could get the same effect if I downloaded a BW action from the internet onto my PSE4 (that I have not used since she gave to me as a gift over 1 year ago). And here I am hoping that someone will help me figure out what in the world she was talking about

There are other ways (other than actions) but I am running 5 and 6 right now so I can't recall the options in 4.
