Is there a tutorial for making papers?

Ones with stripes or flowers - some type of designs?


I would like to make my own and don't know how...
I can't find anything that is not copywrited to use, if my project does well, it will be sold.

If you want a more decorative background paper, you can start out similarly. Start with a new blank file at 12" x 12" 300 resolution, white background. Then create a new blank layer above the background layer and start designing. You can use decorative brushes to decorate your background. There are hundreds of brushes for free download. Try some from this list:

For stripes you can use the Rectangular Marquee to draw out long skinny selections on a blank layer and fill with different colors. Or use the Eliptical Marquee to draw circles to make a polka dot design.

Or use rows of flowers and butterflies as alternate stripes. Find a nice brush design you like, and in the options bar under More Options, you can set spacing. Then you can draw a straight line of the brush design by clicking once at the top of your paper, repositioning your brush at the bottom, then Shift-Click and the brush will draw a straight row of your brush design. Experiment with different spacing until you get the the stripe of your design spaced out nicely.

If you turn on the grid (under Window on the menu) it helps to keep your stripes and designs straight.

You only have to design a section of your paper, then you can repeat the pattern by copying and pasting. For example, after drawing a few stripes, select the striped area with the Rectangular Marquee, then copy and paste the selection and then move the copy into place with the Move tool. You can do the same with a random design in one corner of your paper...drag out a selection around it with the Rectangular Marquee, then copy and paste the sections and drag them into place with the Move tool to complete the design on the remainder of the paper.

An easy way to make multiple copies, after making a copy of your first section, while the Move tool is active, hold the Alt key then drag on the copied section and it will reproduce another copy.

Experiment with a gradient on a layer above a design, then try different layer blend modes in the layers palette to see what effect it has on your design.

Experiment with the different filters in the Filter menu to see what kind of effects you get.

There's an endless amount of different effects to try out to make background papers. And this is a really great way to learn a lot about Elements while you are experimenting. It's great fun.

Oh, and if you get a paper made and want it in a different color, set a new Foreground color chip, then press Ctrl-U for the Hue/Saturation setting, then click the Colorize box. You can then use the sliders to get the exact shade you want.

Another idea: Scan wrapping paper or a piece of fabric to make your background paper, or at least start with a scan, then apply filters or other effects.

I never knew this! Just had a go and found it works horizontal and diagonal as well.
