Hello all you elements and premiere users. I am a big fan of photography and digital scrapbooking, and now, even movie-making. I haven't completely mastered elemnts 5.0 but no longer have any fears about trying out to make a decent picture out of a mediocre pic.

The movie making is what I have problems with, and is why I signed up on this website. Premiere Elements 3.0 has been a very difficult program....for me. I have created one movie and put it to dvd for my nieces and nephews. It was from old 8 millimeter movies that were transferred to DVD some years ago. I added music and a title (of sorts), gave each kid (they are not kids anymore) a copy. Success in a manner of speaking, as they all had not seen these home movies and their father (my brother) died more than twenty years ago. I actually thought I had done a lousy job on the whole thing. Fortunately, they thought I was Cecilia B. DeMille.

Now I am working on home movies for my husband's family. I am using digital pictures, digital movies from a Nikon Coolpix, and vcr movies from our dinosaur panasonic movie camera. We bought a dvd player that can make a dvd from a vhs. I have added music to the part of the movie with pictures and the digital movies. I have left the part using the dvd from the vhs with no music as it is all Grandma telling stories of Christmas past and all the young relatives talking etc.

Here are my problems:

I want to lower the music and cannot figure out how. The properties panel is a mystery to me. Especially the toggle stuff.

I am not quite sure how to edit and shorten different scenes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A simple way to lower the volume is to look at the audio track. There is a yellow horizontal line going through the audio portion. Click on it with your mouse and pull it downward. This will reduce the volume of the entire music piece. If you want it reduced only in certain spots, you would need to use the properties panel.
