Not just portait retouching

I'm learning soooooo much especially about layers & masks and am able to apply what I've learnt in other situations. For instance I used what I'd learnt from lesson 5 on whitening eyes & applied the same principle to an outdoor picture taken of my daughter where her face was in shadow. I just wanted to brighten up her face & body a bit so I clicked on levels, changed the blend mode to screen which brightened the whole picture, then filled the layer mask with black and painted out the bits which needed lightening with white. Still a bit too light so I lowered the opacity and achieved just the look I was looking for. I don't know if this is the standard method for dealing with such situations but it worked! There always seems to be many different ways in PSE to achieve the same results.

This course, like the last one is really helpful. Thanks Dave

Bayla, If the technique did what you wanted it to do, you used the best one for you!

Congrats. I am starting both sets of classes in November...
