New to the Village
Very nice Home you guys have made, very friendly and helpful.
I am new to the Village and this looks like a great place to learn and then post examples of what I learn and also to make improvements with helpful ideas. I have been looking around and your Forums are great the way it is, very organized. The only thing I can't figure out is how to find out is when something was posted. I can't find a way or I dont see the date or time a post was made. Is it in one of the options in my User Section? I haven't had the Photography Bug for many years, and Digital is a great new way to express yourself. I have a Canon P&S SD450 which is a great little camera but very limiting and I found that the camera wasn't able to keep up with me. My wife and I had been at a Formal Event and when I was shooting Candids my camera couldn't keep up with the pace. Very frustrating with a little of the Reality Check thrown in at an in appropriate moment. I just got my first Digital SLR (two weeks ago) after researching out the choices , and find it makes me feel like a Dinosaur! LOL Bracketing Exposures, Changing the Metering, Changing the timing and power of Flash and everything combined to make a great exposure. Very over whelming when we used to do this manually. I am trying to learn my Nikon D80, and I gravitated to Elements for my Digital Darkroom. I have an old version of Photoshop and found it kind of frustrating when trying to apply what I read on the net into practice. Great learning experience, and I'm looking forward to the sharing of this learning process of both the camera and digital darkroom experience with everyone here. I used to be someone who tried to make a living out of Photography so I could afford better equipment. The Hobby of Photography was always expensive and having this Hobby pay for itself was a great benefit to being able to play. Cant do this now! LOL Now its purely Art for Art sake.I got back into Photography after we (my wife and I) had taken some great vacations and playing with the small P&S. I found that I liked Digital Photography, I just needed a better camera to do the things that I was used to from the "Old Days with 35mm". I haven't seen it done, so I will find out if its a rule to not be broken? I see that you have a gallery, and I had posted a couple of shots that I thought would be interesting for the new friendly competition. But I will link a shot from here to see about the reaction. LOL This shot was taken with my little P&S and thought that the 5MP held up.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum! I am very glad you stopped by to introduce yourself. I enjoyed all of your gallery images and just commented on one yesterday - the Capistrano Mission. From your comments, it sounds like photography is in your blood. Many of us are trying to improve our image-taking skills so you'll likely have a lot to contribute here. In turn we'll sure help in any way we can with Photoshop Elements. You certainly may post your pictures in the forum for us to see. That is usually done in "Strut Your Stuff". Enjoy your stay in the Village!

Welcome
Hi Mark,
I am glad you found our little community. You will find Elements Village (EV) to be the friendliest place on the Internet. There are people here with a great range of abilities, ages, and interest. If you ask a question, regardless of the time of day, you are sure to find the answer over the next few hours. This is because we have "villagers" around the world. Your first post of an image is great. I particularly like the brooding nature of the shot. The touch of red (is that a navigation buoy?) at the center really sets the scale of this picture. I look forward to having you build a gallery here with the 10MB offered to everyone. As you may read at this site, we went through a rather radical change during the last two weeks. If you don't know where to find something, just ask and you will be guided to the right spot. With your skill I am sure you will become a regular contributor to our forum. Welcome aboard, Bob

Welcome to the Village. We are happy you found us. You will find a lot of people here happy to answer your questions. As to the date/time of posts - my screen displays it directly above my name at the beginning of the post. I don't think I changed any settings for this to happen. If it is not showing on your end then perhaps we can figure it out - just let us know. |

![]() I haven't seen such friendly people into Photography since my last Photo class a million years ago. As far as that shot is concerned, Bob your good. That is a navigational bouy, in the middle of a Glacier. We were on whats called Ruth's Glacier, and I'm standing on the runway where all the sight seeing planes fly in and land on skiis.
