Changing directory name for project
I organize my project files in a specific directory with subdirectoires for all supporting material as well as adobe generated directories.
I now need to change the name of the main directory. If I do that than when i open the project all the links will be incorrect. Is there a simple way of doing this? Jack |

Hi Jack,
I just did a test.. I took a project that was saved in the default folder of my documents>adobe>premiere elements 1.0>project file name. I then changed the name of the project and was able to open it with no problems. I then made a folder outside of the default location my documents>newtest project, opened the project imported some files and saved it. I then went back and changed the project folder name to Ichangedthisfile I opened that in Premiere Elements just fine everything was like it was when it was the old name. Now if I tried that in FCP I would get a message of media offline since the file name had changed and then would have to relink all the media. Hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions or this wasn't what you were trying to do be sure to repost

Directory
What I did was just rename the directory where my project resided. Under this directory were all the basic folders where elements stores their special folders and all the titles genereated in elements. The still photos were not under this directory but under another directory
When i started elements, I selected to open project, selected the "renamed" directory and selected the project name. All of the stills were displayed properly. but all the titles were replaced by some foreign title and a dialog appeared asking where the renedered files were. Things really got messed up. Is that what you did? Jack |

It sounds like you physically moved the files, that's usually when it starts asking for those.
One way you could go about fixing it is to reimport your orginal titles and hit render when you head to bed one night.. You could just bring the titles back in, replace the ones with the weird language and re render. As long as the orginal titles are still on the time line you shouldn't have much trouble getting back to where you were. The thing to remember here is don't move your files, and don't rename them after you build a project. |

Renaming directory
Tami,
All I did was to rename the directory. I didnt move any files. but I did figure a way to do it that works but involves a few steps. First create a new directory and move all the files to that directory except the project file. then open the project under the old directory name and save then "Save As to the new directory. this saves the project and links with all the files I had moved over. Delete the old directory and open the project under the new directory. So just renaming the directory is not a good idea In doing this i noticed there is a large number of files created by premiere(it took a while to copy the files to the new directory). Is there a write-up on what these files are and what you can safely delete? For example all the version in the one folder. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Jack |
