Premiere Elements 2 questions

Well, I was all set to buy Premiere Elements when I get paid on Friday-and now they've gon and confused me by putting out a new version. I was reading the system requirements for the new version and have a few questions:

I see that PE2 requires a Pentium 4-then it lists a few other letters I'm not familiar with: Pentium 4, M, D, Extreme Edition-are these just different versions of the Pentium processor? I have 4 (just a plain "4")-am I OK? I also see that Service Pack 2 is required? I've never installed SP2 because of compatability issues with some of my other programs-do I need it to run 2.0? Do I need it to run the original version?

One other question that you may be able to answer for me-one of the other requirements is a Microsoft Direct X compatable sound card-I don't think I have this, can I get away with any other sound card?

Thanks for any help you can give me-
Deb

Deb,

If you have a P4 you will be fine, I run Sp2 and have never tried to run PRE 1 or 2 without it...If it says you have to have SP2 then you need to have SP2.

SP2 wasn't a requirement for 1.0 so it should be fine.

As far as your soundcard, what card do you have? I will have to check to see if it is DX compatible.

As far as software goes, if it says you need it to run the program, then unfortunately you need it

Let me know!

I feel so dumb when it comes to this stuff-I can tell you just about everything you would need to know about my 'puter when it comes to graphics, but I know absolutely nothing about sound cards! The label on my computer tells me I have:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Realtec AC '97 Audio
Legacy Audio Drivers

There's whole bunch of other stuff listed-it's an HP, so maybe I'll just email them with my model# (a562n) and ask them. Let me know if any of those ring a bell

Thank you so very much-and I'll think about the service pack 2- alot of the programs there were problems with have been upgraded now, so maybe I wouldn't have any problems.

thanks again-
Deb

Deb,

I looked up your sound chip and it says it is DX compliant.
Also givin the fact you are running a P4 with an Nvida GeForce graphics card I could have just about guessed you would be DX ok..But wanted to make sure

Tami

Thanks for checking on that for me, Tami. I think I will probably go with the PSE4/PRE2 bundle-I was planning to spend $99 on PRE 1 anyway, with the rebate it's not that much more for the bundle. Be prepared to get lots of questions!
Thanks again!

OK, it's a done deal! I got an insurance refund yesterday-enough to cover the bundled programs AND the Pre101 class (though I won't sign up until I get the software installed). It was a sign!
Thanks again for your help!

Yep-first they wanted more money-then they refunded it after I paid it. Makes me wonder . . .

So here is my question. I ripped a DVD of a home movie to my computer, opened up PRE and added the video. Nothing fancy I export to a Pocket PC using WMA set frame size to 320 x 240 Frame rate 30 (also tried 25) and audio 22kps stereo. When played the sound and video match O.K. but the video is jumpy like if someone is walking they take 3 steps forward and one step back.

?
