card making

Do any of you make cards? And, if you do, do you do any that require attaching things--which brings me to my REAL question of what sort of adhesive do you use so it doesn't stay sticky (nothing like a card stuck in the envelope!) and it holds well?

I made this card front for a birthday and attached one of the butterflies as a 3-D element but I'm less than thrilled with the gel glue I used.

Hi Lorri,

What a beautiful card!

A real good craft glue that I've used for years is Aleene's Tacky Glue. It dries clear and flexible. You can use it on about anything.

Your card is beautiful. Are you mounting it on colored cardstock?

Last year's Christmas cards were "postcards" I glued onto colored cardstock. I really liked the way that looked.

I use a Xyron adhesive runner - it sticks better than two sided tape and it's easier to use than liquid adhesive. I also overdo the glue now - my first paste on projects came apart for people and that's was embarrassing.

hmmm...it never dawned on me to use Tacky Glue. I know I have that around here too! Thanks for the suggestion!

And thanks for the encouraging words, folks. I wonder sometimes what the recipients think...if it's "wow, someone really went to some effort for me" or "I always knew she was too cheap to go to Hallmark for a card"!

(My close friends know I am far too cheap to pay $3 and $4 and more for some of those cards in the stores!)

Janice, I printed it on watercolor paper, folded it over to make a card and printed a separate (now adhered on) piece for the interior writing.

I print a lot of projects on watercolor paper. I love the texture and the weight.

I've been heavy into matte coating - but I think the soft colors of your project would certainly look better printed on a different kind of paper.

As far as cheaper than Hallmark? I hope people realize that at merely $5 an hour and including your paper and ink - they are receiving a $10 card - at minimum.

The ones who appreciate it the most are the kids - when they get a custom made card with their name and age. I had a friend's grandchild ask - how did you find a card with my name on it? Even her older brother was impressed.
