Wendy Creation help

Yesterday I started working on my addition for the scrap book assignment. (just to work out the kinks before my turn). I want to redo it as I have a few better ideas, and I think in some ways I can do easier steps than the tutorial I followed.
Question: What resolution should I use? I know 75 is good for screen but I think I will want to make it into a brush, so should I do 300?

How do I know what size I should make it? Am I better off making it bigger than the size that is needed for the project??

I'm anxious to get started but hubby wants to go out today. No one was interested yesterday and today the kids are all still in bed.

Pauline ...

When I am creating things I usually create them far larger than I need ... working on the basis that its easy to scale things down but difficult to scale up. I also tend do do the same thing for making brushes .... so 300 resolution would be my guess.

When I have made something large I then save it as a psd as I may need it again for something else ... if I do then its easy to just copy the merged item into my new work and use the move tool to reduce the size so that it fits.

Excellent advice Wendy! I now have a file named, "creations" to put stuff that I make in. I'm looking forward to re-doing yesterday's hours of work with my new method and hoping it turns out. It was fun doing, so I don't feel like I lost a day.

Oh and last night I did a creation from Tim Shelbourne's web site. Some steps I couldn't do but I got the jist of it. The model sitting in the chair with the picture of her face enlarged behind her. I didn't have all the elements needed to do it for the person I used, but I still liked the way it turned out. I really need to learn more about how the lighting features work on PSE and that will be another avenue to explore. Last night was my first time using them..................way too many options! :?

Pauline ..

I really like Tim Shelbourne's work ... anytime you are doing a tut and you have problems translating the steps into Elements let me know. I may be able to come up with a workaround

thanks so much Wendy. I am getting a little better at figuring out work arounds.

This is the piece that I did. You might remember it on his site. It was a girl sitting in a chair with her photo behind her and another on the floor. I couldn't do the bottom half since I didn't have a full shot of the girl I used. The girl in my photo is a real beauty. She is the grand daughter of someone on my Golden Retriever list. I think it turned out pretty good. The lighting was tricky and I know it needs more work, but unlike the photographer I didn't take the pictures with this in mind, but rather worked with what I had.

I might use this one for Friday's tutorial.

Yes, I do love it. I can't remember what instructions I couldn't do as I was working on 2 projects yesterday and both had PSCS instructions. I know he did talk about ropes on this one, but the pictures with the tutorial were so small, I couldn't figure out where they went. Also he did work with channels. That had to do with the clouds which appear over her face. I solved that problem by putting the cloud layer below her face and then dialing down the opacity so you could see them. I'm getting there!

Hi Shnupita,

Here is a link to Tim's tutorials:

http://www.timshelbourne.com/tutorial.htm

To find the actual tutorial you just click on the picture and the tutorial comes up

Thanks Shnupita. It was a lot of fun to do. As you can see by the tutorial that Wendy so helpfully found for you (thanks Wendy) it is a "version of" that tutorial as I only worked with what I had and I loved those two pictures of my friend's grand daughter.
