Elusive Feathered One!

I have been trying to capture a shot at him for a while. Finally got my chance, but I had to shoot through the window. So I had to make some adjustments!

Thanks for the compliments! This is a Pileated Woodpecker, the model for the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker!

There is one nesting in a telephone pole at the entrance of the nature center where I volunteer. Of course, I always see it when my camera with the long lens is back at the house...

great picture. Brings memories back when i moved from city to country.
I couldn't sleep because a woodpecker was out side my bedroom window. not to mention crickets, frogs, etc.

He is a beauty. Thanks

Great shot!

I've been trying for ages to nab a good picture of the one hanging around our house and I've had no luck. He laughs that incredible Woody Woodpecker laugh and flies away just before I have the camera ready!

I watched one of those pileated woodpeckers totally destroy an old stump. They are something else. Nice work.
