Hey,
I do photography for my daughters sports teams. She's 7.
I am trying to create templates for magazine covers. Anyone out there know how? I've had pelements for about 3 days. I just cannot get the hang of this layers thing. HELP!

Hello, welcome to the forum and Elements ! If you click on the ' Home' button up here and then click on ' The learning Center ' there are a couple of tutorials that will help you to understand layers and how to use/create them in Elements. You have to kind of put your mind into a ' collage' mode and think of how every image you want to add to your canvas is seperate....well it is the same as using 'layers' in Elements. Every image you want to add to your collage will be on a seperate layer...some above others and some below others etc... So with your magazine cover you need to put your mind into the 'layout' mode...background>image>text etc... all will be on it's own layer. Anyways, once you start playing a bit you'll see how easy it is.

A book I can reccommend to you is Scott Kelby's PSE3 Down & Dirty Tricks... it's full of mini tutorials, including some that might be helpful to you with your project.

Hi Sue, and welcome to the forum!

I ordered Scott's book from Barnes and Noble online-couldn't be easier-www.bn.com. It's a fabulous book, full of great projects. I also recommend his "Photoshop Elements 3 for Digital Photographers". Another great resource with tons of information.

Another suggestion for you would be to check out the online classes right here at PET-Scott does one on workflow-and Dave Cross does one on Retouching Photos-both are terrific, with videos to watch and PDF's to print. 21 lessons for $20-you get a lot of bang for your buck there. :lol:

Thanks for the info. I am going to buy both books. I am already taking the 1st online class. Reading all the post and watching all the other video clips on the site. I mean to learn something about this program. I have had PSE 2 for a couple of years and never really learned to do much on it. I just upgraded to the PSE 4 and now I intend to learn how to do layers and all the neat things you people do here. I guess it would be fine to get the book Photoshop Elements 3 for Digital Photograhers even though I don't have PSE3. I still have version 2 and now version 4
