Adding music to video
Hi. I have several questions about adding music to a project.
First, do you have to put each new song on a new track? From what I see, the answer is yes. Secondly, is there a way to cut a song short (fade out in the middle, to another song). When I add the media, it is in one big "clip". Can I cut it short, so my audio from the actual video can be heard? Or adjust the volume in particular parts? I think that is why you'd have to be able to cut it into clips. Last, is there a way to adjust the audio length to the end of the video??.. or do I just fade it out even though the song isn't over? 8) |

Hi,
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Yes 4. Yes  I have a little tutorial I wrote up on adding sound to a project, at work. Let me get in there and I'll post it for you to take a look at. |

If your music is too long, simply go to the end of the track with your cursor and a red bracket will appear. Grab the end of the track and drag it back to the end of the video track, it will snap to the last frame of the video.
So your slideshow doesn’t end abruptly you can add a dissolve at the end of the video as well as have the music fade out, when the video ends. To fade the music out, click on the audio track to make it active, place the play head where you want the music to begin to fade, and click the diamond shaped button on the left side of the audio track, that creates a key frame, Now set another key frame at the point you want the music to fade out completely. Move the play head to the spot you want and click the diamond shaped button again. You should now have 2 diamond shaped points on your audio track. Simply grab the last one and drag it to the bottom of the track. To lower the music for an area you want to hear the audio in simply put keyframes on either side of the audio you wish to hear and drag them both down to where you are able to hear the audio over the music but can still faintly hear the music in the background. the above information is a portion of a tutorial that pertains to your questions if you need anymore info let me know

Tami, your suggestion worked perfectly!! Thanks!
Now, what is a clip marker for? Arent the clips already set when you import the video? I have had PE for a while, & have made 2 other edited videos, but this is the first one that I'm experimenting with new ideas. Any tutorials that you have would be very helpful ( on any subject). It's easier to see what to do rather than read it in a book! And by the way, as you probably already know, there arent many books out there, like there are for PSE. 8) |

it depends, you can disable the clip thingie ( new technical term) when you import your video if you want and then make your own edit points.
That's what I do, since I have weird ideas about edits ![]() Glad I was able to help out with your audio! Maybe I should see about writing a book, my boss writes em, maybe I can ![]() |

Maybe I should write a book
"Maybe I should see about writing a book, my boss writes em, maybe I can "
You may have said that in jest (I noticed your smiley). However, I will come back with a serious - yes, you should write a book about creating Slide Shows with Premiere Elements. I did watch your video and it is better at isolating the slide show tasks than anything else I have seen - but I still want more depth than a short video allows. The Peachpit Press Visual Quick Project series has a book about Creating a Photo Album in PS Elements for Windows. It is 131 pages including index. It doesn't cover everything but it is good for getting started and telling you just enough to do a good job the first time. To me this Visual Quick Project would be the ideal framework for writing a book specifically on Making a Photo Slide Show with Premiere Elements. Make it short and mostly simple. Help the people who purchase the Photoshop and Premiere Elements bundle become productive quickly with Premiere Elements. Barb O |

I also think this would be a great idea 8) . The "manual" that comes with Premiere is as light as the one with Elements. Let me know when you are taking pre-orders and whether I can get a signed copy  Mike |
