Scanning Tips
A lot of good information in this link - not only on scanner resolution but printers, video etc. A bit technical in places but one of the few places that explains the myth about monitors being either 72ppi (Mac) or 96ppi (Windows) - they aren't - monitors just display pixels and how big your image is just depends on the image size in pixels, the screen resolution you have set and the size of your monitor.
