Importing Media

Hello again. I'm trying to import a mpeg video into Elements. It's 3gigs in size. It doesn't import it though. What am I doing wrong? I have the video saved on my harddrive and the original on a DVD disk. Any help would really be appreciated.

Hi,

Go here http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/w...Ie.4@.3bb684cc

and read about MPEG formats for PRE.

I'm guessing you are having trouble because its so big...Are you getting an error message? If so what is the error so I can do some more checking.

Also is it MPEG 1 2 3 4 or what?

Also is it a DVD that you copied to your HD or footage that you took with a camera or..... more info is always better when I'm trying to troubleshoot from afar

Sorry Tami. It is a copy from a VHS tape to DVD. I then copied from the DVD to my hard drive. It plays fine in Windows Media Player 10. When I look at the properties of the file, it just says mpeg. When I try to import it into Elements, I get a box that opens saying Importing Media. The little progression graph doesn't move even after 10 minutes. If I choose cancel, it doesn't ask if I'm sure I want to cancel this operation. It just closes the box and I'm back to the regular desktop for Elements. Any more information you need I can provide for you.

Thanks Tami

Ok,

when you copied the DVD, was it a finished product? ( a DVD with menu's buttons etc?) Or was it just a huge file that you copied?

If it was an already produced DVD thats where your problem is, it would need to be captured from the orginal footage (VHS) or an un edited version of the DVD ( one that has no menus buttons etc) When foot age is produced as a DVD it gets encoded, and and has to be decoded with some types of software to make it editible again.

Let me know

Editing Video's

It was done by a company that put a menu to it. It used to be just a VHS tape with my wedding on it. It has about 4 separate file names on it. I fount another company that can copy the tape to DVD for me. They said they can probably lighten and sharpen the images for me. I think I'll just use them and not worry about trying to do anything with Premier Elements. I spent the whole weekend trying to find some kind of convertor. When I copied the DVD to my harddrive, it copied it as a MPG file. I was hoping to be able to copy it as an AVI file. I've been using Roxio's Creator 7.5. I couldn't seem to find any settings in their program to save it copy as an AVI file.

Thanks Tami
