A question

I have been having this problem since using 5 but was not frustrated enough to ask - but now - I have started to make some Christmas cards. When I do a new layer for my initials it is usually the last thing I do. I sometimes like to try them in different areas of the photo. The first time when I do the initials it is OK but if I want to resize or move the layers pallate automatically jumps to layer 1 or background layer and shows the bounding box around the whole photo. I click back on my initials layer to get that bounding box and PSE5 reverts back to the other. This means I am moving the whole photo and it is a pain. I have been deleting the initial layer and redoing the whole thing where I want it in the first place - but this is getting tiring. Has anyone had this problem??
Shari

Shari is your option for auto select on?? Usually this is the problem. I prefer to keep mine turned off and only turn it on when I specifically want to use it.

Right up there at the top of the menu bar when you have the move tool selected. Make sure it's not checked.

Shari, thanks for asking that question. I thought it was just me. And Pauline, thanks for the answer. I have unchecked the box.

Thanks Pauline. It was checked. I have unchecked it. Just shows you - ask and ye shall receive - answers make things so much easier.
Thanks again.

You're all welcome.
Just so happens I have spent the last 2 days helping my daughter learn PSE 5 and saw that it appears to be on by default which was also causing her problems.

Hi ...

I rarely turn mine off ... if it is turned on you just need to make sure that you click on the visible part of the layer and then it works just fine ...

If you have Auto Select Layer turned on, but you want to target a specific layer in the stack...

...position your Move tool on the spot where you want to begin dragging from, and RIGHT-click the mouse. A list of layers will pop up, so you can force-select the one you wish to move.
