Uploading PSE Gallery to Web Site

I have been using Front Page to assemble my galleries for my web site. I have now tried to create one using the new Galleries Wizard in PSE5. Does anyone know how to go about attaching it to my web site? I have tried both Front Page and FTP without success so far.

Bill,

For any of the images you used, did you have a space (or more than one space) in the file name? There is a bug, and spaces are converted to = signs, which ftp servers will not respect.

If you're okay there, here is what I do:

1. Generate my gallery, and save it in a directory called "Website".

2. Use Internet Explorer to FTP to my ISP. (I type ftp://blah.blah.blah in the location bar). Then, I select all the files and folders in the Website directory and drag them to Internet Explorer.

Bill, some web sites don't like spaces or long file names. FTP and Frontpage (I use both) will look like they are failing, but it's the web site that's refusing to budge.

Who is your provider? I'll see if I can give you some help.

Is the file (folder) name of the Gallery Trading Cards? If so, change it to Trading_Cards or TradingCards.
Then, as Trish and Brice suggested, check all other file names for spaces and take them out or change them to "_".
This applies to all files that you upload.

The directory name at your website should not have any space in it either. Again, change it to Trading_Cards.

Well you didn't provide a provider name, but I think it is StartLogic. Not sure if you have a windows or UNIX account so that didn't help much

Juergen had the best suggestion at this point: change Trading Cards to TradingCards or Trading_Cards. Also, do any of the file names have Oystein with the "O" changed to the norweigan symbol? If you get to the directory you may have a problem with that character if the server doesn't have language setting set properly.

What FTP client are you using? Is it the one provided by startlogic? It doesn't look like you are using the Frontpage FTP client.

EDIT: After reading some of the help files on what I think your provider is, you definitely need to remove the space in the directory and all file names...

I have finally worked my way through it with Front Page. In the dialog box for the gallery that I included in my earlier post there is a section for saving the gallery without FTPing it. I named the Gallery Trading_Card_Gallery as you recommended with the underscores included and then opened the "browse" link and navigated to the location on the "C" drive where the web page is stored. Then I saved the gallery there. (I should have figured that out earlier - Duh!). Since the gallery has all the html stored in it I was pretty sure it would work if I could upload it from Front Page. So I tested it using IE from the C drive.

The thing I was not sure about was how to link it.

As it turned out the html is coded in a way that allows the folder "Trading_Card_Gallery" to be linked directly from a page on the site. After I uploaded it using Front Page I went to the site and sure enough it opened the gallery.

I am not as astute with these things as I ought to be, I guess, but sometimes you can work your way through them with a little careful evaluation of the choices as you go through the development process.

Thanks again for all your help! It is easier and more consistent for me to use Front Page than to try to FTP the upload anyway now that I have figured out how to do it. I have not coded html for more than 10 years and so I really don't want to go back to that.

Bill, that's neet. PS CS2 doesn't create java based galleries like that. Some folks don't like those, but that looks kind of nice! I think you did a fine job.
