Adobe Photo Downloader & *.CR2 RAWs?

Hi,

I am trying to use the Downloader to get RAW images from my Canon EOS 350D (known in US as Digital Rebel XT). It seems that the Downloader cannot recognize RAW file with .CR2 extension. When I connect my camera to my laptop the Downloader pops up but it only shows JPGs on a memory card (if any). Any idea on how to make it download CR2 files? Elements can easily open them if I transfer the files manually to the laptop.

cheers,
Marcin

Hello -

Just bumping the topic, does anyone know how to get Photo downloader to work with .CR2 raw files? It is the default format for the Digital Rebel XTi as well.

I have the Canon digital Rebel XT, but I use the EOS utility that came with the camera to download all of my images to my laptop, including my .CR2 files. I disabled Adobe's downloader so that it wouldn't automatically pop up when I hook up my camera to my computer to download my photos. See if something at this link here will help you. Hopefully someone who uses Adobe's downloader will come along with an answer for you.

Raw Cs2 Import Fixed

Hello to all,

Installing the suggested RAW plugin update fixes this issue. It allows Adobe Photo Downloader to import .CS2 RAW photographs into your organizer, and also allows you to edit them.

Jodi, thanks for the help and pointing out the link. That was exactly what I was looking for. I agree there are alternatives but as we have multiple cameras its nice to have 1 interface to 'get' all of the images from a card reader, rather than having to worry about cables for each camera.

For future reference, the link is here for the updated RAW plugin file. Read the directions on how to install this plugin on that page as well.

The Downloader and CR2 files don't seem to be getting along too well. From what I understand, there is no clear solution. I do not use the Downloader. I get all my pictures, RAW and Jpeg, with a card reader, using Windows Explorer. Or occasionally on the laptop with the camera connected, again with Explorer.

Juergen

PS: Even with the latest update of Adobe Camera Raw installed, there have been problems reported.
