PS 5 and D80 RAW

Just purchased Nikon D80 and shooting in RAW for the first time.
How can I get this into Elements 5 as it comes up with an error and cannot import NEF
Do I have to load up the Nikon S/W supplied. If so, will I then have to go from the camera to Nikon Picture Project and then to Elements.
Isn't there an easier way?

Kim I was looking at one online last night. My fingers were just itching to order one. Please let me know how you like it?

The Adobe Ver. 3.6 RAW plug in works fine for me.. with Elements 5
