Unhappy Frames in PSE 5

I read somewhere some people had trouble using the new frames in PSE 5. I have too! After opening a photo in editor then applying the frame the click here or drag photo here did not want to work good for me. Either it didn't drag in right or if I got it in I could not resize correctly to get the full photo with in the frame. After playing here is a method that worked good for me. I opend a photo in editor & minimized to the photo bin, then created a new transparent file a little larger than the photo, then applied the frame to that file, stretched the frame to fill the canvas. Then drug the photo from the photo bin onto the canvas with the frame & that worked good for me. If anyone has any thoughts on this or a better way to do it I would be happy to hear from you! Donald

Don,

That seems to be the case. I do scrapbooking. I usually do a background, then drop my frames that I want on, and then drag my pictures. I find it is better that way, as I often do fixes on my pictures and then drag and drop them onto the frame. It would be nice to be able to drop the frames on the pictures, though. I guess it's a new workflow to get used to.

Thanks for that Donald. I thought it was just me. I was leaving it until I had time to investigate what I was doing wrong. I always work on my photo and then if I like the results it is then when I would decide on a frame. It would be really nice to just drag it over. There are so many to chose from.

Deains,
I opened an image, selected a frame, and it automatically framed the image for me. The image did appear as a smaller window, but it was the entire image that was framed. I could also use the slider to increase the view of the image inside the frame. After that I was able to use the move tool to enlarge the image w/frame in the current workspace.

I'm not exactly sure what your phase.....

was referring to, so I may be off base in my message here. I'm not sure what you were doing differently than what I did, as noted above.

Dorrie's correct. I do the same thing and I haven't had any problems yet.

Some of the frames do seem to work ok, & add the open file to the frame. Then on those I can just resize to what I want, some though I don't get the full size of the photo inside the frame. Then it seems there are some that just put the frame on top of the photo with text saying click here to add photo or drag photo to frame, I can not drag the photo to the frame, the photo in the photo bin also has the frame on top & when I click here it wants to browse for the photo & don't have time for that method. Can't say I've mastered the technique but what works for me is open the image and then drag the frame onto it. If the image was the backgound layer - that creates a frame layer with the image in it. It will usually be smaller. Position the image in the frame with the zoom slider and click and drag. When it's where you want right click - or hit Enter. Then you can drag the frame plus photo out to the size you want. If you want to reposition the photo in the frame right click and select - position photo in frame - right clicking also has lots of other useful things to do like fitting the frame to the photo or changing the photo.

If the image wasn't the background image you will get that gray click here to add box but you can then just drag the layer with the image on it into that box and it will add it.

I'm sure there are lots of other tricks but these have worked so far for me (and discovering the right click was the key!)

Edit: One more tip. If you don't like the frame you used just drag a new one over onto the framed image and it will replace it - with some you may need to do a right click and fit frame to image to make it look right.

Tony
