Tip o' the day...

I've just finished day 4, didn't see any familar faces in class...

ahem...

Anyhow here's a tip that might shave off a few clicks where Mr Kelby suggests selecting the threshold adjustment layer to see your darkest and brightest areas respectively.
While in the Levels adjustment window (Ctrl L), simply press and hold down the Alt key (no, you Mac guys can work your own key out! ) and then drag the Input level sliders left/right.
The result at the farthest left and right points will let you see the darkest and brightest points of your image before entering into the colour ranges. Kind of a threshold view within the levels window. From there you can then choose your blackpoint/whitepoint droppers and select the darkest and brightest areas quickly before Mr alzheimers ruins your day...
It saves going back and forth to the separate threshold window and works just the same!

I'm Schizophrenic and so am I.

Nice tip!

Hey Spyder-

Very nice tip - I didn't know that one! Like Wendy said, it works of us Mac users, only we need to hold down the Option key instead of the ALT key.

It's similar to the way the exposure and shadows sliders work in the RAW converter. Very cool!

Option/Alt key

Wendy,

It's not just the UK keyboard, all the Mac keyboards in the States have the "alt" written in smaller letters above the word Option. You know Apple, always playing well with others!

Hey, do you know the story behind the command key's curly icon? Check out this page and website -

George,

On my keyboard it doesn't even say Option

The three keys for left to right say
Control, Alt (with the funny little symbol underneath) and the last key just has two symbols a little apple and a sort of square with circles on the outer corners

Keyboard symbols

Wendy,

The "last key just has two symbols a little apple and a sort of square with circles on the outer corners" - did you go to that link I provided. It tells the story of the command key's glyph.

http://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py...Campground.txt

I'm assuming the option key has the option glyph, which looks like a profile of a man's face or an electrical switch symbol, depending upon whom you believe.

I don't know for sure if Susan Kare, who designed the first Mac's icons, and later Window's icons, is responsible for the option-key glyph as well.

Hi George,

When I tied to go to the site earlier it was down ... but I have now been able to access it.

Thanks for the link ... what a lovely little story
