What problems are you having?
To use the torn edge filter, first you need to make a selection around the area(s) that will be missing by creating torn edges and delete it (them). Go to the Torn Edges filter and adjust the three settings until you get the effect you want... Mike |

I have never had a good result with Torn Edges ... I make the selection, and change the setting then odd colours seem to come into it ... if I move the slide to get rid on them then I just end up looking as though I have made a selection and filled it with white. I guess that I am not doing it right
![]() I use a couple of methods to do torn edges ... they take a little longer but I like the effects: http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/torn/torn.htm http://www.wetzelandcompany.com/MonthlyTip7.html Wendy PS ... I now feel like a total idiot!!. I have just worked out that the "odd colours" are coming from the background colour I have set ops: ops:  ops: ops:

The filter needs to be applied to the area you are deleting... one thing I have noticed is that the effect it creates is better on darker hues and detailed areas...

color
In the help contents is say it uses the background/foreground colors to colorize the image.
It works better on high contrast or text images so it says. I will try playing around with the filter thanks for the help. This filter could drive you  |

layers
How many layers do you use mike when using the filter.

I haven't done that much with it, but I've usually worked on a single layer. As I said, the filter has limitations because it only works on certain hues (it is particularly bad on blues).
When creating torn or ripped edges I use a different technique that involves making a selection with the lasso tool, layer modes and levels... Mike |

Yes, that's another way...
The Torn Edges filter is like a few things in Elements - it does a good job, but there are other ways in the standard software (i.e without add-ons) of achieving better results as you become more proficient. Mike |
