Exclamation Stop Buttons Bluray Discs

I have captured a Wedding as a HD project using PE4. After the main video I have added a "highlights" section. The two are separated by a stop button so that the video returns to the main menu after being viewed WITHOUT running into the "Highlights" video. It can be viewed separately by accessing it from the main menu. It all works fine if I produce it as a DVD. However the same project does not work properly if produced as a Bluray Disc. It appears that the Stop Buttons are not recognised when it is produced as a Bluray.

Can anyone help or has anyone else had the problem???

Adobe have been no help at all. Can anyone advise>

Hi Stan ...

I'll transfer this over to the Premiere Elements section for you as I think you will get more replies if it is in there

I have an idea (guess) on this one. But, I do not have a BluRay burner, BluRay disc, and BluRay player to test it out for you. But I will do some homework on this.

You say....

Please detail...what was the Premiere Elements 4 project preset (new project dialog)....HDV HDV 1080i25 or PAL DV Widescreen or something else....are you capturing HDV from miniDV camcorder (firewire) into Premiere Elements 4 OR shooting HDV, downsizing in the camcorder, and then capture firewire into Premiere Elements 4.....or something else.....

Also, when you got to the Create Menus phase of the program, did you use a HD menu (HD in upper right corner of thumbnail)?

Also, when you placed the Stop Marker on the Timeline, what was the arrangement....end of first part no space stop marker no space highlight content OR end of first part space stop marker no space highlight section?

Those may seem like a strange assortment of questions but there is an idea (guess) in there, based on your answers.

(BTW, there is a similar thread on your question over at the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe. Is that you? If not, I will post the link for that next time.)

Stop Buttons Blu-ray Discs

My PC is currently processing another attempt which takes about 10 hours for a half hour video so I am unwilling to stop it!!

From my memory.

Project preset was 1080i25. The camera is a Sony HDRFX7E and I have always filmed in HD. Before trying Bluray I downscaled from the camera and captured as DV with no problem. Problem started when I captured as HDV (mpeg)

Initially I was working with non HD menu. Using an HD menu made no difference.

I have tried varying the space between the stop marker at the end of the main menu and the start marker for the Highlights video to no avail. I think I have always had a space between the footage. Should I try putting the footage end on???

The other issue I have is that when I run the "thing" to separate the footage into clips it separates some clips but not all. This makes editing harder but it is manageable. Is there a connection? I think not.

The project preset (new project dialog) directs which DVD Menu Templates will be available to you when you get to Create Menus. That is why I wanted to rule in or out the use of SD versus HD DVD Menu Templates in this matter.

You could try moving the main movie and the highlights side by side, but the markers do not work on top of one another, so, even though you have the sections up against each other, each marker (Stop at end of first, and Main Menu (at start of highlights) would have to occupy its own space.

But, I have yet another idea, either brilliant or a major dud. What happens if you leave your main section with its Stop Marker at its end (Video Track 1) AND put (move up) your highlights with its Main Menu Marker at its start (Video Track 2)?? ...I do have more reasons for doing that other than just the position of the Stop Marker-Main Menu Marker....

I believe that you are referring to the Scene Detect feature in the Project Media View section where you right click the video file and select Scene Detect from the drop down menu. That feature analyzes your video and splits the video into clips by content. If there is not a clear enough distinction between scenes as judged by the feature, the feature fails to split the video. And, if it does split the clip, it may not always be at the points that you would have preferred. You would do better trimming your video in the Preview Window with the In Out points (additionally making subclips) or just using the Scissors Tool. After saying all that, at this point, I do not believe this to be involved in your Stop Marker-BluRay issue.

I am continuing to check out other possible leads.

I agree that the "Scene Detect" issue is probably nothing to do with the Stop Marker issue.

I tried moving the Highlights video up a track to no avail. I am going to try that on another project as well.

I have also updated the firmware on my Sony BD player to no avail. I have had the same result on a Panasonic player also so did not really think that would make any difference.

Frustration continues!!

Sorry that the previous suggestions have not resulted in reaching the goal.

Just Stop Markers and BluRay?

I am still thinking away on this. Although Adobe markets the product telling us that we can burn to BluRay disc and have our Timeline in BluRay format with menus, it really does not elaborate on supported markers. To make that claim, it must include scene markers. Are there scene buttons in a Scene Selection Page for the BluRay (playback) and are they functional?

When you place your Main Menu marker on the Timeline at the start of the highlights and label that "Bonus Item" which will appear as a button on the DVD Main Menu Template, does that Bonus Item button appear on play back of the BluRay disc inserted into your player and is it functional?

I am researching the structure of the BluRay related to stop markers as well as checking out other software handling of BluRay with menus and stop markers.

To be continued....

I think you got your answer on the Adobe forum already, it isn't possible with blu ray in Premiere Elements.

I will say that this is not a problem with Encore DVD due to the way you can use Playlists, Chapter Playlists, and End Actions. If you want this functionality you might have to upgrade to Pro

Before and/or at the onset of this thread, I was aware that this issue was raised at the Premiere Elements User to User Forum at Adobe.

However, I saw only a one liner "cannot be done" near or at the end of that thread, without any explanation. The lack of a Why Not always troubles me and encourages me to try to find out. Often, the Why Not's of this world do have an answer. So, in that hope, I have explored to find that answer.

Maybe it will be a no win situation, maybe not.

To be continued....

All buttons and scene markers appear to work equally well on DVD and Bluray. Only the Stop buttons do not. On DVD they are fine and return the video after each section to the main menu. They do not return the video to the main menu either at the end of the main video or at the end of the Highlights video when it is Bluray. The other thing is that I have had the same results whether or not the Menu was a HD specific one or not!!
