Snake Effect

Hi All,

This may be a little hard for me to explain, what I am actually getting at, but here goes.
First of all, maybe the best explaination. could be if anyone has been to Disneyland, and seen that show "Honey I Shrunk the Audience", well through that they have an effect of a python, and at the end it gives the effect of the snake coming right at you, I realise it is 3D, but I need to achieve something like that. I have searched the Internet, but without any great success. I have a AVI of a Python slithering along the ground, but that is kind of dead!!! looking, what I need is a little bit of "SHOCK EFFECT", kind of what I mean, something that would really make you JUMP. does anyone have any ideas how I can achieve that.
PS. With the AVI I have Key Frames won't do it.
I hope my explaination makes sense.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks once again

One thing that you will notice in movies is the music. Much of the Shock Effect is produced by the change in music

Have you thought of using a still image of a similar snake with its mouth open?
You could do a quick transition from your moving video of the snake to the open mouth still and do a drastic music change. If it was only on screen for a few seconds you would get a pretty nice effect out of it I think.

Something like this might work

Do a search for Python images and see what you can find

Bubby Grub,

In this .avi of the snake slithering along, is there any point where the snake appears head on (as in approaching head on)?

If so, have you thought about working with freeze frames (from video on video track 1) placed on video track 2 above these impact moments on video track 1. You could keyframe the freeze frames at such moments, add effects, etc. For that matter, you could put other images (non freeze frame) above these video impact moments.

Please think about it and let me know what is happening.

Snake Effect

Hi ATR
Thank you once again. I have included the link of the snake I have used in my Project, but I have only used the first 16 or so secs. of it and of course I had to crop off the advt. etc. Little Nac tried cutting the last frame where his head appears a couple of days ago but to no avail. It just doesn't look right. I'm kind of trying to achieve a "shock" effect with the snake striking. I may go through this site and try to find another one that may work. I'm pretty sure I did this, but will try again. This site will show you the snake, and may be you can come up with an idea.
Thanks once again for all the help.
P.S. It is the last video of the three. The one on the far right.

Is that snake video downloadable? That looks like it would work. The snake is pointing in the right direction.

Snake Effect

Hi ATR

Yes it is downloadable, and I have done so, and as previously said I am using around about the first 16sec. or so, but unfortunately it is not producing enough of the shock effect. I actually tried the suggestion of CE's regarding a still photo and transistion etc, but I did not have a great deal of success with that. Maybe I am going to have to get use to the idea of not obtaining the shock effect, and somehow just go with some scarey music, though I must admit I do so hate to give up on an idea.
Anyway thanks once again

Snake Effect

Good Morning ATR. Well at least it is here after a night of severe thunder-storms.
To download the video, just click on the thumbnail to bring up the video, then to the right of the movie is a "download" button. Just press that and it should work.
Little Nac spent all yesterday afternoon searching youtube for such an effect, but unfortunately came up with nothing. Or at least what he did come up with is a couple of sites from which you can download youtube videos, and they work really well. As he is a fan of David Copperfield, now he will go silly downloading all of his shows etc.
But as for the snake, there was nothing very good on the site.
Typical of me, I always want something I can't get.
Anyway, thanks a lot for all the help, so I guess I will have to look at another avenue.

OK, I downloaded the video and gave it as try as per my previous suggestion.

I will work, BUT... I suspect that you should develop you own piece of video of a snake approaching to attack since this specific video has copyright protection and will not be able to make it passed your living for viewing by you and Little Nac.

Even if you go to a local zoo and take a series of photos of a snake in action, you could put them together into an animated gif.

Anyway I am off to delete the video from my computer.

What I did was trim from the start of the slither to when the snake is facing head on before the retreat. Freeze frame that last shot and keyframe the scale property of the freeze frame so that the snake face fills the Monitor frame eyes glaring. A little glow to the eyes and you have it made. Maybe some sound effects..low hiss that gets louder and louder??

Thanks once again ATR for all your help. We may have to re-think the idea, and come up with something else. I came up with the idea of putting a close-up of Little Nac on the screen. That should frighten the "hell" out of anyone!!!! He's not real happy with that idea, I wonder why???
Thanks once again for all the help.
