PSE 6 - Image Proportions Not Holding

...i have an image with dimensions set exactly as i would like them to be, but when i save as a .jpg or .pdf to have it printed at a store, the image looks like it is stretched vertically...but when I view within PSE 6 it looks correct...

emexmedia,

Well, if the image is coming out distorted, then there's a mis-match somewhere.

What are the pixel dimensions of the image, and what is the size of the print?

Byron

You might need to take a look at the screen resolution settings on your Display Properties for Windows. Do they match your monitor? I had a friend who noticed all circles appeared as ovals on the screen but printed as circles. Changing his display settings corrected it.

We have a similar problem at our community centre ... circles are appearing as ovals on the screen.

If it was a Mac I could sort it out but it a Dell and I haven't a clue what to do ???

A couple things...

How about posting the picture so we can see it. That would pretty much clear up whether it's a circle or oval. Also, how did you make it a circle. Did you grab the tool and drag until it looks like a circle, or did you hold down the shift key while you dragged the circle on your image? The former suggest a possible video setting problem. The latter generates more questions. How do squares work? Do they print like rectangles? Have you view the jpg on your machine? Does it look like circles or ovals?

As far as the settings, my friend had ovals on his screen when they were really circles. If he adjusted his screen resolution to match his monitor it would be fine. The problem he had after that was that even if he saved the new settings, they never really got saved. He went to the Dell website and downloaded new drivers and now can save the settings. He no longer has problems. In his case he had just added a new wide screen monitor.

Hope this helps

Actually -- the circle/oval thing was not mentioned by the OP - but used as an example by Wendy... but it certainly would not hurt to see the image.

I am mostly interested in the pixel dimensions and the print size.

...the pixel dimensions are 6600 px by 4313 px...
...the document size (print size) is 11 inches by 7.188 inches...

...600px/inch if you're wondering about the resolution...

...i've downsized the files for viewing (although they may be too small now)...

What are the measurements of the paper print you receive?

Is this an image that you created yourself, scan it in or did someone send it to you ??

I'm just wondering if its to do with Pixel Aspect Ratio ??? In photoshop we can adjust the PAR with Image>Adjustments>Pixels Aspect Ratio. Someone sent me a file a little while ago and it had this problem ... changing the Pixel Aspect Ratio and then resaving it sorted it out.

Elements doesn't have this but if this is the problem then you can stretch out the image (using free transform) and resave it.

Sometimes scanners can accidentally have this setting checked and do this.
